Why hasn't Neyland Stadium been named The VOLCANOE?

When I was at UT back in the day, we had a Vol
Spirit club for basketball games bc basically we weren’t very good. It was called the VOLcano spirit club…

They gave us these shirts and we got to sit in the front to try to be disruptive to the other team and get the crowd at Thompson Bowling to be more excited…

We all thought it was a pretty dumb name back then. However, I’ve heard worse.. at least we’re not VOLtoilet, VOLouthouse, or VOLcrapper… lol

I like the sentiment, but when you combine words like that, it’s called a “portmanteau.”

Vol + canoe = Volcanoe
Volcano + canoe = Volcanoe

The first one is a compound word. The second one is a portmanteau.

Fulmer at one point on his coaching tenure started to call Neyland the "Rock" as in Rocky Top, I assume.

Thankfully it didn't catch on.
