Why do I get the feeling that there isn't a lot of interest in the OC position?

Fulmer's going to announce that after a long and exhaustive search, he's discovered that the best man for the job has been at UT all along: Phil Fulmer himself! Then he's going to try to seize the salary for the offensive coordinator position. All the Fulmerites will be thoroughly delighted because as we all know, Fulmer IS UT Football. If you think Phil sucks, then you hate UT.

is Gus Malzahn still at Tulsa.... what's the chance Fulmer is waiting for Tulsa to finish playing tonight and sit down with Malzahn?

I think if anyone expects Malzahn to be our next OC, they will be in for a huge disappointment.

therein lies the problem. obviously fulmer makes the hiring decision, but he shouldn't have to beg anyone to apply (and it's looking more and more like that's the case).

That's a huge amount of speculation. Fulmer may have slacked off thinking he would get Kippy or Spence.

Two more weeks, then I'll throw my name out for OC.

So....who wants to see more option football in the East?

Tubberville found a OC within 48 hours.

And that's good why? I would prefer taking time and finding the right candidate. This is dead time for recruiting and practice. Coaches that have jobs are on vacation anyway right now except LSU and OSU. Maybe that's a clue.

I think Tuberville knew for a long time what he was going to do and who he was going to hire. Once he pulled the trigger, it was all a formality. And he hired a guy from Troy. If Fulmer wanted a guy from a Sun Belt team as his OC, he could have filled it the day Cut quit. Obviously he wants someone coaching at a higher level.

and he's in no position to slack off on this effort.

In hindsight, it looks as if he shouldn't have. Apparently, he picked his 2-3 guys and assumed one would stick.

Who knows though, he could have feelers already out that had his second tier on standby. Those would be the calls he follows up with tomorrow. :)

i can hardly wait for Fulmer to step to the micophone and announce after a long and extensive search the new offensive coordinator at the university is......drum roll please....coach Adkins please step forward....gag!...at that time it is every Tennessee fan's que to throw up

 this would be the worst hire in ut history. I mean no i was not wanting to hand the keys over to troop but he would be alot better than adkins. Please fulmer dont let this happen. I keep looking for a big name guy. I dont care who they guy is as long as we throw the ball down field, get the best out of our athletes, win ball games, win championships, and get back to the way football is thought about on the hill.

It's pure speculation . . . but I'm just using common sense. It's a high profile coordinator job at a BCS school. There are people who want the job.

You're asking way too much out of a lot of people there.

1. Fulmer is considering calling his own plays

2. We lost a candidate to a mediocre Cal program

3. No news coverage of any exciting candidates who are interviewing or expressing interest

Has the program slipped into such oblivion that we're no longer on the short list for the most desirable candidates?

Who are we to call anyone mediocre? Pot calling the kettle ...

Fulmer may have to call back Trooper and Randy Sanders. I think the problem may be the lack of control the new OC will have over picking his staff and having to submit to Fulmer and the TN scheme.

bcs contender. when was our last trip to a bsc bowl game?

I don't see how this has anything to do with the level of interest a candidate would have in UT...

Are we the UT of the late 90's...obviously not...

Are we a mediocre mid-major team...obviously not...

We are a program with incredible tradition, fan/booster/administration support, and facilities...

We have a history of paying assistants very well...

We are a contender every year in the toughest conference in the nation...

We've landed a top 5-10 recruiting class in 4 out of the last 5 years...

We still play in some of the most hyped games of the college football season on national television on a regular basis...

Offensive Coordinator at UT is a premeir job...which begs the question "Why aren't we hearing more about it"...

Which then begs the question..."Is Fulmer up to his usual, stubborn, my-way-or-the-highway BS?"

it's real simple because there isn't.

i read the articles, but my point is, if it was a highly sought-after position, no amount of effort by the university could keep the reporters from creating a buzz.

Well, to be honest, there is bigger news. Michigan was big news especially with the whole Les Miles thing. Petrino to Ark was big news. I've only barely heard anything about the Cal and UCLA hirings. Actually, I've only heard about them because of a similar pool of candidates. It is a crazy season, and this really doesn't compare to the other, bigger headline grabbing events that have taken place.

I'll only worry about this after the OC is announced, and even then it will depend on who is hired. If it really is someone that runs a similar scheme to Cut then there will be no sweeping changes. I would rather NOT have this be huge news. Let the players relax and focus on school... not the media. Seriously, why give yourself an ulcer or cry yourself to sleep? Watch the Nat'l Champ game tonight and relax.

I wonder what Buckeye fans thought when they hired a division II coach. I know he was with them in 81 or 83. Is there anyone that was with the TN staff and is now coaching division II?
