Coach Joker Phillips tells a story about when he realized that he should hire former Tennessee QB Tee Martin, who was officially brought on board as WR coach on Tuesday.
Last Oct. 16, Phillips was recruiting at a high school game in Atlanta. "I feel like I'm pretty big in knowing everybody in Atlanta," Phillips said. "Well, when Tee walked in the stadium, it was like every little kid, every coach, every media person knew who Tee Martin was. That moment right there, I thought, 'This is a guy we need to be looking into pretty heavily, and we need to try to attract to our place.'"
Martin's playing and coaching background is with QBs, but he was passing game coordinator at New Mexico last year and has some experience working with receivers. However, it sounds as if recruiting will be his forte, as Kentucky continues to try to lure players from the talent-rich Peachtree State. Martin began his coaching career at Morehouse College in Hotlanta and also coached at two high schools in the area.
He seems like he will be a GREAT recruiter. Maybe hes a future Vol (again)?
