Why did we quit running the G. Jones qb play in the second half?

It also looked like they called a Flanker pass, but Ainge rolled in the opposite direction for some reason. It was either a bust by Ainge or one of the screwiest play designs I've ever seen.

:eek:lol: I agree to point.

I've got mixed feelings on both. Cutcliffe is a damn good QB coach and a disciplinarian. This team needs someone who will chap someone's ass. Cut will. If he's gone, just make sure you replace him with somebody that will do the same.

Chavis saved his job as the season wore on IMO. His defenses have always been pretty damn good, except against spread/option teams. I'd give him another year to try and stop it.

Really, more than anything else, the way coaches have changed after this season, I'd wait till next year before making a change in the coordinator spots. It's looking like slim pickings for good coordinators right now.

Cut needs to spend less time "chapping asses", and more time calling plays that will produce yardage. JMO.

Chief spent three games saving his job (Georgia, Arkansas, and LSU), and six games losing it (Cal, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky). Sorry, he just didn't deliver.

Bring 'em both back next year, and next year...you get this year...maybe with more talent. Turns 9-4 in to, what...10-3?

Nope. New blood is clearly needed. If not from top to bottom, at least at the coordinator positions.

Riddle me this: What would Bo Pellini have done against a wounded LSU offense, and what would Steve Spurrier have done against the LSU defense? Given this UT team.

There's your answer.

go vols.

It was.

His other two "busts" cost us the SEC Championship.

He's a senior. I expected more. Thankfully, he won't do the same thing next year.

Well, not for the Vols.

Probably the same thing Chavis did, hold them to 13 points or 15 if you count the 2 point conversation.

I agree they have had subpar seasons, but I wouldn't fire anyone without a good replacement in the wings. Right now, all the decent coordinators are getting absurd contracts to flop as head coaches. Next season make a change if needed (which it will probably necessary).

I'm not for making change just to make it. CPF made his bed when he hired Cut back.

If Ainge doesn't make those bonehead throws tonight we are happier than a pimp at a ho house! Gerald Jones should play more...oh yea thats right...fulmer don't believe in playing Freshmen on offense....what a joke

I dont think our offensive play calling has really changed alot. I mean is has gotten a little better since randy sanders but I think Phil might be more involved with that than I thought.

we quit using it b/c it worked

It got stuffed one time, and they never ran it again. Honestly, that package should have been in the game every time we had a 3rd and 4 or less. It is obvious we have the play makers on offense, of which Gerald is a big part, but for whatever reason we have a difficult time getting them the ball. The way I see it, summer and spring will be important towards developing Gerald Jones/Rogan/Creer/Moore/ect into every down type players. I don't really know what sort of routes Gerald runs, but he's made a number of big plays for us in the past few games. However, tonight I felt like we really missed Hardesty. We needed a back who could really pound it on LSU, and Hardesty has certainly proven he will hit the hole hard and quick. The one two combination of Foster and Hardesty gives us that dependable methodical back and the hard nosed north and south runner. In the end I felt like Erik just had too much of the happy feet, and if we had been able to establish the run it probably would have calmed him down a lot.

Great point.

Actually, several good points, and that one great one.

But..."good replacements" don't wait in the wings. You have to go find them.

Preferably outside the current staff.

We put it all in one man's hands, and he failed. Our running game was being manhandled. I would of mix in the Jones play a few times and then set them up for a play action deep pass while everyone is in the box. :ermm:

an over conservative, offensive lineman type with little imagination is the head coach.

Remember Cutcliff only runs trick plays on opening drives. The following is the gameplan from that point on
1st Down: Run up middle
2nd Down: Run up middle
3rd Down: Short pass
4th Down: Punt
then if hes feeling frisky its the following
1st Down: Run up middle
2nd Down: Run up middle
3rd Down: Playaction Pass
4th Down: Punt

with all the coaching openings this would be a bad year to get rid of a coordinator....but hell we could just move talyor to coordinator for either side and he would probably be great

1. Berry is not a better QB than Gerald, look at the films and look at the stats... 2. There was a statement posted of the more you run the formation the less it would work.. Completely Wrong.. He is averaging almost 12 yards per carry when he runs it. He averaged 20 yards per carry against one of the best defenses in the country.. 3. Gerald is a very very very good thrower so it has no limits. Its not geralds throwing ability that is limiting the effectiveness of this formation its Coach Cutcliffe. Im not sure if he is ready to let Gerald throw it or what but he has stated that Gerald is a NATURAL QB and that Gerald can throw the ball very well and this is coming from a QB Guru..

How proud were you to see Gerald getting PT in the SEC championship game? He made a difference - I just wish it could have translated to a win.

Primarily, it's called Dumb Coaching.

True Fans really know:
> It was way too "bold" in our ultra conservative offense.

>Obviously, there wasn't enough "Senior Leadership" involved with the play.

I would rather have seen more passes come his way. I think the only time Ainge threw to him, it was a pick (one that G Jones could do nothing about). Instead he was trying to hit Moore, who dropped two (bad) passes in a row.

EXACTLY what i was screaming last night. i kept yelling "put jones back in at q". all my friends were asking me why i was harping on him. he did a helluva job with the ball every time they put him out there and it put their d on their toes. i really wanted to see us flex some nuts and put jones out there and run the tebow fake sneak then launch the ball. the one where he drops back then takes a few steps forward to bring the safeties up then launch it. if the pass wasn't there he could still use his feet to get to the sideline or first down marker.

I remember that. Looked like Lucas Taylor was suppose to get the handoff. Everyone else is on the right page except the senior QB? I don't understand his play.

Im always proud of Gerald, he is a great young man. He needs to be utilized a lot more though. He is averaging almost 12 yards per carry and has about 9 first down in his 13 touches. He makes plays and for some reason he is not being allowed to make plays. Hes gonna keep working hard and when his number is called he is gonna produce and thats what hes about, production...
