Why can UT not hire a football coach efficiently?

Pruitt is trying to get an OC that plays his style of football...Bad news folks, There are not many of those left out there...It's an up tempo spread offense kind of world now...EXCITING offenses...Not that boring crap he wants to run so there is your answer.

Every other team in the country seems to be able to handle this process quickly and efficiently, but every coaching hire here turns into a drawn out circus. I know reports are out that Pruitt has his guy, but all of this reeks of interference from somewhere....Fulmer, Boyd, Haslam, BOT, somebody. Pruitt likely knew of Helton's departure for months and it sounded like he had a short list very quickly. I know that everybody is coming out and saying this is Pruitt's decision, but I'm not buying it. Someone has to be interfering and I'm raising the question of who? My personal opinion is Fulmer but that is just tea leaf reading.

My theory is that due to the state of TN football right now, we've been turned down multiple times or there is discord within the AD.

That would certainly be a valid reason but would an OC for a playoff team take a step down to be at UT? It would most likely be a position coach and I don’t think a promotion would be a distraction

I don't see that as a step down, it only tells me its not a current SEC OC. Let's face it, if you a HC at any other conference coming to the SEC as a OC or DC, is a step up and if your a current OC or DC at any other conference coming to the SEC as a OC or DC............God has smiled on you and you better count your blessings.............the SEC Rules and the rest........well, if nothing else is on TV...like AHC, or Weather, I might watch them.

I don't necessarily think it's even about discord. Either we've got our guy and were holding off for some reason or we don't have our guy because coaches are leery of hitching their career to a rebuild under an unproven coach.
