Why can UT not hire a football coach efficiently?

I agree.
After Jimmy was so fond of Schiano at the Browns, I'm sure he (or somebody) influenced the AD to give Schiano a shot, after they had backed Currie also.
But that's normal, quid pro quo, in business and politics.
But nothing since, as far as football or AD, has suggested any kind of interference.

Now, they're just scapegoats whenever we have any trouble.
Well part of it is that when you're bad for 10 years, you look for common denominators. Coaches have come and gone, players have come and gone, ADs have come and gone.

Swain several weeks ago said he had been hearing Helton was gonna be out, and Pruitt wanted Kiffen but Fulmer shut it down.

Coaching searches at UT take time, and

My wife could have some wild emotional swings that drove me nuts early in our marriage. After watching the irrational hand wringing and pure assumption in this forum, I think I'll go apologize for being insensitive. She was relatively solid as a rock!

Freeze signed for half of what we were paying our OC last year right? I wouldn't say cheap is the right word.
From what I can tell money wasn't the issue with Freeze in particular. We likely passed for the same reason others did, his past.

Pruitt is trying to get an OC that plays his style of football...Bad news folks, There are not many of those left out there...It's an up tempo spread offense kind of world now...EXCITING offenses...Not that boring crap he wants to run so there is your answer.

TN biggest problem is not getting off the billfold. Ole MS just paid their new DC 1.5 million and we shop at Goodwill.

This makes two different journalists with strong ties to the UTAD reporting two different instances, Freeze reported by Lowe and now Kiffin by Swain, in which Fulmer shot down what would have been a home-run hire. How often is Chris Lowe accused of being a poor journalist? Swain played for the Vols, and played well, and I haven't seen him accused much of not knowing of what he speaks. If Fulmer is hamstringing Pruitt, Fulmer needs to hit the road. There's no excuse for this.

Too much logic. Don't you know that the UTAD is being contacted daily as we speak by billion-dollar corporations around the world who want to observe and learn from the clocklike precision and success with which it is run?

That is a possible opinion.

Does worrying about stuff affect you that profoundly? I hope you don't hand kids.

No. Don't; worry about much of anything. I do question, however your reading comprehension. My first words were I won't be worrying about this hire. In response of course to the OP comment on should we worry.

People being optimistic that Pruitt "has his guy" and is just playing his cards close to the chest.

This a botch job as usual and we are getting turned down left and right and will be forced to settle for our 8th or 9th choice for the job.

And you know this how?

Because we hired a guy who thinks he’s Nick Saban, but in reality just got smoked in six games by over 25 points. He seems to think he can dictate to high level OCs that they have to use his buddy as their OL coach. You know, the guy that presided over the worst OL in UT history. This is a rookie coach with an unrealistic understanding of where he is on the hierarchy of coaches and total misunderstanding about where this football program stands.
In a sea of bad takes, I'd be lying if I told you I haven't considered that this is what is happening.

You also implied worrying equaled not living and not being able to get up in the morning. You and I obviously have different definitions of worry. I worry about my little kid as most parents do, it doesn't affect the way I live my life in that extreme. I'm glad you don't worry about much. It's a good thing since worrying would stop you from getting out of bed, based on you're own statement. I've never experienced that. If worry effects you as badly as you imply in your comment, you wouldn't survive children.

There are many OCs out there that run a pro style offense, a good OC can incorporate elements of the spread and pro style into an offense.
