Oh yes there will protest and he didn't do squat with that OL even against D-II teams.
It's going to be a best friend / big buddy hire.

Same thing that Fulmer was so hard headed about with Sanders, and the program went straight down hill from there.

Twitter will be angry and many on here(myself included) will be both pissed and vocal about it. But I just can't see people marching in the street.

Ive been supportive at least until they crapped the bed the last 2 games but if he hires Friend consider me soured

I don't think there was a true search and it was a done deal.

If Pruitt had someone "big" in the bag, he would have already announced to fire up recruiting.

He's been recruiting the entire time. If the recruits knew something different it would would have already leaked like wild fire.

I don't get the logic there. If your going to hire Friend, announce it quickly, then hit the recruiting trial and sell the hire. They would have to do that after the early signing period anyway and the announcement would get buried under the playoff selection, Heisman announcement, and subsequent hires by other teams. Leaving it open puts a cloud over the early sighing period and potentially sours the spring signees if you lie about it. I also doubt it doesn't leak after this long. The cloak and dagger stuff just doesn't sound very plausible to me. I think we tried and missed, like so many times before. Freind is the backup plan. Either way his promotion to OC would be a failure.

If you really want someone you don't try, you get the deal done no matter what it takes.

It's going to be a big buddy hire and they just don't want to get the fan base to get riled up until signing day has come and gone.

I'd would have gave Briles want he wanted and that would have been the best move for Vols football.

I'd take Tee right now over Friend and Tee is a recruiting machine that got caught up in an entire coaching staff firing.
Did Clay Helton make any difference for USC when he took over the play calling?

Nope. I dont want Friend to be the OC. But I believe thats who it will be. I wish they would just announce who the OC is so we can know. Its getting old logging on to VN and seeing someone come up with another what about this guy for OC thread. More often than not its a google coach.

We cannot have nice things because the powers that truly run TN athletics wont let us. Stop blaming the fans for the absolute incompetence of TN leadership.

Not burning mattress, but a lot of empty seats. The next round of recruits will show what they really think.

I sure don't see that top 2020 qb staying in the fold, but I sure hope that I'm wrong.

By waiting they make it seem they failed at hiring a proven coach even if they didn't. I just don't see what they gain from doing that. You're lightning a fire that will burn until at least signing day when you could have let the early signing period and the other stuff I mentioned put it out. To my mind waiting to announce Friend makes things worse, not better, for the AD and coaching staff.

Briles, Freeze, Chaney, Jim Bob. There are are several good ones we could/could have gotten. Unfortunately we are notoriously cheap. Or maybe we won't let them bring their coaches in/let loose of the reins. Given what we've seen over the last decade, I'm betting on incompetence over intrigue. Maybe I'm just jaded.

If I'm objective and honest, a 6th, 7th, or 8th choice may not be bad. Sometimes people just need a chance...

However... utad's record is agaisnt them. They have set a remarkable precedent the last decade
