Why are we trying to be the opposite of Alabama?

But I thought we did try Alabama’s style for the three past years, and it didn’t work. Even Saban changed offensive philosophies and adapted to the faster pace offense a little more. Pruitt tried it, and it failed. Now we have a coach that will speed up things trying to score quicker and more points, just like Alabama now. As for the unis, I’m good with it. You have to give Hype a chance. He hasn’t even coached his first game yet.😎

Alabama recruits NFL front 7s and Olines. We recruit big east players. Bama plays a grown man 3/4 with press coverage on the outside. We run a bend but dont break Big 12 defense and give WRs free releases off the line. Bama runs the football down people throats, dont let the spread formations fool you. If being the opposite of bama translates to national titles I haven't seen it. Clemson copied Alabama to a tee and its working out pretty great. They didn't run dabo off when he struggled for alot of year and clemsoning was a thing. we woulda sent him packing just to fake sell a rebuild and be fake excited. You're right lol
Thanks for your input Coach Pruitt, but shouldn’t you be focused on the Jets season?

Hell yeah! Tradition! Bring back the single wing!

It was a TN tradition under General Neyland!
You laugh, but I would live to see a team set up in a single wing for one critical play. Would give a defensive coordinator an aneurism and at least cause them to burn a time out

All "being Alabama" means is hiring SEC coaching staffs, Recruiting GA, FL, LA, building SEC front 7s with dbs who can play on an island on the outside. While running the ball down your throat (even out of spread formations) and staying true to your identity of the program. Its not that deep and complicated. UGA, clemson, Ohio state are really good bc they're "being Alabama". Take your orange glasses off and develop some common sense.
I don't wear orange colored glasses. I'm as cynical as they come. You might want to take off those crimson glasses. By the sound of it, you might also want to take off the houndstooth hat and throw away the Nick Saban body pillow.

In 2010 Alabama wore Nike Pro-Combat alternate uniforms that included a giant Braves ripoff A on their pants and a partial stripe. Also, their helmet stripe and jersey numbers featured houndstooth print. / thread

I respect playing real SEC defense. I grew up watching the chief put his dbs on an island and attacking the qb all night. This big east defense the penn state DC is putting in isn't my cup of tea. Neither is going 3 and out in 18 seconds on offense and tiring your defense out by the 3rd quarter. I think all thats fair. I respect the way Alabama plays football. Mainly bc we used to do the same thing under major/fulmers.

Everybody thats good cheats. Fulmer was the king of cheating and hes my favorite coach of all time. Its how you win in this league. Pretending otherwise is pretty ignorant to say the least. Unless you think clemson, UGA, ohio state etc isn't cheating. Our fans would be dumb enough to believe that tho

Well that explains everything

Yeah fulmer was awful.. All those nfl draft picks, the back to back sec titles, the natty, the best winning % in CFB. I can see why All the Tennessee fans wanted him gone the year after winning the east. lol they look SOOOO smart rn

Fulmer was nothing without David Cutcliffe and Fulmer almost destroyed the program with his hiring of Pruitt. He can enjoy the unearned retirement money we gave him and go away forever

The same amount as the last 5 combined coaches yall have been fake hyping in year one for the last 13 years. He did win the East 3 out of those 9 years tho. 3 more than the last 5 coaches combined. Hating on a guy who played here and won a National championship here is embarrassing. Especially from a "staff member" of volnation, wouldn't you say?

No I wouldn’t. Congrats on his success over 20 years ago. He got lazy as coach, left the program in disarray and got a $6M buyout, sabotaged a coaching hire, took over as AD with no experience, then left the football program worse than the found. Then took another $1M+ from the university after he had failed. He can go away forever.

He almost destroyed a program that was coming off a 4 win year when he was hired as AD? Make that make sense for me lol

Tennessee used to be a traditional SEC power in college football. We wore our historic home and away uniforms. We never thought gimmicks and alternate uniforms were cool. When Alabama went through their bad years in the 90s/early 2000s, they didn't start checkering the stadium and wearing corny alternate uniforms. They stayed true to their tradition and never felt the need to try to do the lame stuff everybody else in cfb did to try to be relevant. UT today seems to think wearing smokey grey uniforms and black uniforms this year isn't a slap in the face of what real Tennessee football is and stands for. We hire coaches who cant recruit in the SEC and play the opposite brand of football that wins in the SEC. I hate Alabama and hope they lose every game they play but UT throwing away all tradition to be the opposite of Alabama doesnt seem like a way to not get the breaks beat off of you year in and year out. Why Tennessee fans continue to embrace being a corny football program is mind boggling. Pretending hiring coaches that get SMOKED in recruiting and play a gimmicky brand of football translating into catching the big boys in the SEC looks stupid and we pretend it doesnt every year. Its embarrassing to the tradition of the program on all levels.

Only a few more days until the off-season is over.

Who's had success since we ran our hall of fame coach and former player off? Ill happily wait.

If Fulmer was in such hot demand, somebody would have hired him. Everybody knew he was done. Just because we’ve had incompetence and bad luck since doesn’t mean we made a bad decision. It was absolutely the right call.

Yes that’s how absolutely horrible him and Pruitt were. He did such a terrible job he made it worse after a 4 win season. He was an idiot as an AD. And while I’m not a Barnes fan, he had such a bad relationship with him he almost ran him off till Randy Boyd saved the day.

Checker Neyland is one of the coolest things I've ever seen and is widely envied by programs all over that could never pull that off.

Thats your opinion. My opinion is we've been the laughing stock of the sec since he was fired however you justify it. Saying the program was in disarray the year after we won the east vs urban and richt is stupid. He made a bad OC hire and we panicked and blew everything up. Lane would have probably been great here if the Usc job doesnt come open but throughout history when you fire a hall of fame coach it takes a long time to get it right. I take exception to trashing fulmer. He was the best coach we've ever had and he played here. Thats a million times more than anything you've ever done. No need to disparage a real Tennessee guy.

Tell me you're a bruce pearl fan and we can move past this trashing of big Phil lol
