Why are people mad at Heupel?

I really hope Heupel goes the opposite way of Mullen though. Mullen seemed to no longer care after he didn't get the NFL job he wanted and recruiting tanked. He is a good coach though and I am interested to see how it goes at UNLV.
Heupel already has a leg up as his wife doesn’t make out with the players, that I know of anyway.

I just laugh when we start winning that some say well the conference is down. Really, besides this past year you can’t say that with a straight face. In fact even this year we had 4-5 teams maybe 6 in the top 15. Just quit with all the stupid crap. Fact is Tennessee has gotten better, much better under Heupel’s 4 years here and it isn’t because the conference has went down! Just quit the stupid talk! GBO

Nobody (no players, coaches, or admin people) who were around during that time are still here. I don't know why it would have any affect on them. The players currently committing to Tennessee probably don't even know how bad Tennessee was in, say, 2013. They do know we've been good the last few years. There is a hang up that this program has with UF in particular that is inexplicable.

If going 30-9 with 2 top 10 finishes over the last 3 years is being haunted by the past decade, then sign me up.

If I can do math, our best 3-year stretch from 2008 until Heupel arrived was 2014-16, where we went 25-14 with 2 top 25 finishes. That was the best we did.

We also had only 4 wins over ranked teams during those 3 years, only beat UF once, and never beat Alabama. We did beat UGA twice.

We did beat UGA twice. I think it was Richt’s final season, where we came back from a huge deficit and then Kirby’s first season on the Hail Mary. We had some pretty good rosters in 2015 and 16. I think Heupel w/ some of those players would’ve had some pretty good success.

Alvin Kamara is in NYC for the Heisman ceremony in 2016 if Heupel is his coach, and that team might have gone 11-1.
