Why are people considering Strong?

He's on my list.. With a great offensive coordinator, he could be a great coach in the SEC. He can recruit, he coaches defense...

It's fair because its a good record against bad teams. Strong supporters will says it great, his detractors will says its meaningless, those of us in the middle think its a part to be considered.

Yeah, but it would be the same thing for almost any big time coach out of conference. What would Meyer's Utah team had done? What would Chris Petersen have done in the SEC with his team?

You got to look at what translates. Charlie Strong has proven to be an elite DC in the SEC. Charlie Strong has proven to be an elite recruiter in the SEC. Charlie Strong took over a trainwreck and won.

Charlie strong has a good résumé and is a defensive guy. He's in no way a bad candidate. I wouldn't jump for joy over him, but I'm inclined to believe he would be a viable option. He's a strong second tier candidate.

There wont be any homerun hires interested in Tennessee.Gruden isn't coming here.Stoops ,Cower, and so on they aren't coming.First off we need to get a list going of realistic coaches and Charlie Strong would be on that list maybe not first but he would be on it.

He's on my list but its way down. I have wondered the same thing as you.

I agree with Loco, not sure he is the answer for UT. None the less a very quality coach and I wouldn't burn a mattress if they hired him.

Yes, if he uses big east talent against SEC talent, he's going to lose most games. That's not the point. He's turned around a program that was going dead, even in the big east.

You give him SEC talent, what could he do? I'd imagine good things.

Exactly the point I was going to make. Of course his team this year wouldn't probably have a great record against TN's schedule.

BUT he is winning at his program and rather quick.

He could come into TN with his defensive knowledge and recruiting ability and have us competing for titles in 2-3 years.

Lol I don't think we are far apart on Stong. :hi: We just view the importance of his record in a different light.

Anyone know what his defenses ranked each year in The SEC?

I understand that Strong isn't an exciting name but if he's interested give him the job. You can't fault the man for winning the games on his schedule.

Charlie Strong is a great recruiter and will get us some ballers from South Florida. Look at his Louisville roster now, half the kids are from South Florida including QB Bridgewater who we couldn't get!!!!

If he got the Job would he be committed to UT or would he bolt to UF or someplace like that once he won?

Charlie Strong isn't a very good head coach, and he's a horrible recruiter.

After Dooley gets his walking papers, Tennessee should look elsewhere for its next football coach....Charlie Strong is not the answer.

Well, if Larry says that Strong isn't a good coach, then we should move on from him.

How about the young guy from Northern Illinois?

This year, he has beat everyone who they asked him to play...what more do you want?

I dont think that Charlie is the best coach out there. However, I do think he might be the best coach who will actually come to Knoxville in 20 days from today.

He is on my list also; the list of coaches I don't think can do as well at Tennessee as Dooley has done.

Strong is way down the list for me. Still too unproven. People say he is a great recruiter. What have his classes been ranked? Yep, worse than Dools.

I want Gruden. If he turns us down, which at this point he has not, I want Patterson. He came up as a defensive coach rising to DC. He then took over at TCU when it was nothing and over 12 seasons has moved them up to the Big 12 and has gone 7-4 in bowl games including winning the Rose Bowl. This would be a step up to the big leagues for him. He makes more from less, like Brian Kelly, and we see how that turned out after Hamilton botched it. He is in his prime as a head coach at 52 years old. He would be a 10+ year hire.

Again, only if Jon Gruden says no. But I would have no trouble backing a winner like Patterson for the term of his contract.

The guy went 7-6 two years in a row (in the Big Easy) and I get it, he's 9-0 right now. But please, seriously look at the teams Louisville has played this year. Look at who remains on their schedule.

2012 Louisville Cardinals football team - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CDD would be 9-0 playing that schedule too. Not a single ranked opponent. I'm not saying keep CDD, but I don't get why people think Strong will come here and do any better.

How can you say dooley would go 9-0 at louisville? When he didnt have but 1 winning season out of 3 at LA. Tech in which he went 8-5 and went 5-7 and 4-8 in the first and last seasons he coached there.

You're absolutely right.

Relative to Dooley's accomplishments at La Tech and UT, Charlie Strong pales in comparison. Strong hasn't come close to accomplishing what Dooley has.

Charlie Strong is not the answer.
