Why all the 5* misses?

Georgia (3) and OSU (2) are the only schools with multiple 5-stars at this point. Only a handful even have a single 5-star player.
Some people just look for stars and nothing else. Look at the quality of the last three classes and you will see a steady increase in talent level. As you stated, we are better than most and solidly in the top 10 right now.

I hate missing as much as anybody. But I'm pretty darn excited about who we are getting. The point difference between us and Ga isn't that significant add to that our culture and coaches and I'm happy. I won't count us out of any game on the schedule and more so over the next few years. GO VOLS

Lets compare that chart once the number of recruits is even. 3 more recruits at this level makes a huge difference.

Improvement on defense. We can't get improvement on defense until we get better talent, and we can get better talent until we show improvement on defense. Hopefully no one that started in the secondary last year will see the field this year, or at least have a very short leash.

Believe it or not, we have 24 DBs on our current roster. If Martinez can’t find 5 very good/elite DBs from that stable, then he needs to find another place to coach. In my opinion.

There’s only 32 of them in the country. So if we’ve been in enough of those battles for you to start a thread about it, we must be doing something right

Stars are great but what really matters is player development. Where teams typically tend to gain ground is when they can take 3 stars and make them play like 4 stars and take 4 stars and make them play like 5 stars. Obviously, it takes multiple recruiting cycles to get to where Georgia, Alabama etc, but it starts with development. Thats what I love about CJH and company. They take these guys and are able to develop them to a higher level. It will only show more with better recruits. I expect the DL to take a giant step forward this year with the recruits that Rodney Garner has to work with this year.

Naw we really aren’t… like really aren’t
we recruit no where close. We don’t have 3rd string 4 stars

Well since I have never seen you post anything positive, i’ll just consider the source and leave it alone.

There's about 30 "5 stars" per year, per recruiting cycle. Kind of silly if you ask me to expect to fill a class with multiple of them. I mean we got the most important position last year when we landed Nico. This cycle we are getting him a weapon to throw to.

Yeah it'd be nice to get some more Darnell Wrights and Trey Smiths, but there's literally only one 5 star oline players in the 2024 class.
It should be looked at similar to 1st round picks in the NFL. UT should get at least 1. Two is phenomenal, 3+ is outrageous.

Also, many fail to consider the high-school ratings of transfers, such as Bru and Thornton recently.

If we land one or two+ 5*s in this class and bring in a 5* transfer, we're smokin'.

5* certainly don’t guarantee they’ll be special or anything. We’ve seen plenty of 5* busts over the years. I’d much rather have a large amount of 4* then 1-2 more 5* players and right now we are doing well

Yeah you have to be careful with some of these 5 stars, sometimes you wonder how a certain one is still available. Why didn't he go to the usual 5 star Colleges at the time. Some, usually a very few are prim donnas and not a good fit, and/or thuggish and/or disruptive, regrettably some of those have fell in our laps in past years. I used to say our bad luck we get the only 5 star dud but it is more of doing your homework. Some coaches got into winning the recruiting sweepstakes and would take one of these cancers to finish high beat their chest to please the recruiting junkies.

This. Because this is wisdom on Volnation, an often rare and wonderful thing.
