Why all the 5* misses?

Here’s a question. We have Butch or Pruitt as coach and land 4 5* players. Heupel lands 4 4* players. Which group of * players get better and play better?

Before I answer, is this a trick question?

Gators have #3 class right now. Idk how Napier is doing it and Heupel isn’t.

Because FLA has 21 commits to our 18 with some more 3*s so their composite is a little higher. Pretty much even, though. Napier may end up doing pretty well down there. We don't ever need to sleep on FLA. The state is loaded with talent and they have been recruiting South Georgia well too.

One of the reasons, and I know people don't want to hear it, is NIL. We have got to raise more money. We are being outbid and I heard this from someone who would know.
That doesn't jive with what is widely regarded as being one of the strongest and most ambitious collectives (Spyre Sports).

On3's top 20 most ambitious NIL collectives

^^^^ On3 rates Spyre Sports as being #1 on their list of most ambitious NIL collectives.

https://www.si.com/college/auburn/f...h-of-every-nil-collective-in-the-sec-football

^^^^ Sports Illustrated rates Spyre Sports #2, in ranking the strength of every NIL collective in the SEC.

I feel like Heupel values cultural fits over stars, more so than Butch or Pruitt. I was worried about recruiting a month ago, but we have had some major pulls. We are winning some of these bigger recruiting battles over the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama. Sustained success = better recruiting. Considering where we were two years ago, this staff has earned more time.

If we have a strong year, I can see us flipping some of these players.

Idk how Florida holds onto their class.

DJ Lagway is already rumored to be a flip candidate. Clemson and A&M pushing hard.

In addition to how few 5-stars there are most years, the players have to fit our culture and be a plus factor in the locker room. Rumor indicates how much damage even one locker room incident can be on a winning season.

I tend to think that the most common leveling factor for many "upcoming dynasty" teams in college football has been the chemistry between elite players reaching a toxic tipping point. Historically, only a few coaches have the brutality and grace of personality to keep those rosters from exploding.

I like the kind of young men Heupel is recruiting. Any fan with boys should send Heupel and White thank you cards for elevating the standard for character expectations of an athlete in the state of Tennessee.

Time will tell what successes we can achieve. But one thing we know already--it's sure going to be fun to watch!
Midway through the 2021 season that's exactly what I told my husband about 2022. "Gonna be fun to watch" and it just keeps getting better!!

What is it gonna take to land some 5 stars other than recievers
Them deciding that UT is their best choice? The coaches make their best pitch. They're constantly looking for ways to improve their presentation as are all other top programs. In the end, you never know what might be the thin that turns a kid. It could be that they want to play for one of the recently successful programs like Bama or UGA. It could be proximity to home. It could be the location. It could be academics. It could be someone on the staff. It could be the fan base. It could even be something as silly as the school colors or a girl that winked at him while on a visit.

There will be about 30 5* players in a given class. Honestly, sometimes the difference between 4* and 5* is whether Bama, Clemson, OSU, and/or UGA treat them like a priority. So there aren't that many to try for. The fact that UT has come from where they were 3 years ago to a point of being in serious contention for 1/3 to 1/2 of those 30 guys... is actually pretty impressive.

I always remember what Bobby Bowden said when he was run was over at FSU ----- " Our problem was signing all these 5 star recruits..... they were 5 stars in their heads but not on the field".
Ain't that the truth...look at all them 5 star guys Pruitt and Butch got to come to UT.
I can't think of any one of them that had a stellar career here aside from maybe Trey Smith, possibly Eric Berry (don't recall if he was 5* or if he was a Kiffin/Fulmer recruit)...or went on to to ball out in the NFL either.

How many school miss on 5*’s regularly? We have had our share of them, just haven’t had the coaching to go with it till now.
Recent 5*’s
Nico
Darnell Wright
Trey Smith
Matthews
Derek Barnett
Bryce Brown
Eric Berry
Kahlil McKenzie
Wanya Morris

Tennessee gonna gets its share, but they not gonna get everyone one of them. Hell, Bama and UGA Miss on 5*s also. Now let’s look at the teams that have a 5* right now committed that’s in the top 10.

UGA- 3
Ohio State- 2
Michigan- 0
Florida- 2
Bama- 3
Penn State- 0
Notre Damn- -0
Clemson- 2
USC- 0
Tennessee- 1

Only 5 schools in the country have 2 or more 5*’s currently committed.
