I love that Memphis needs that game far more than we do and begs for it and we are in a spot where we can turn our nose, little brother is in their place, maybe one day we’ll let them out.

It wasn’t that long ago that Tiger High refused to play us in basketball. It had to be a package deal with football. Then in 1996 at the Liberty Bowl they cheated for their only win.

We don’t need more “exposure” in Memphis. The Big Orange Caravan outdraws what Memphis gets at their booster events. Anytime we play there it’s a full house at the stadium or the FEDEX Forum which they never get against anybody else so we definitely help their ticket (and season ticket) sales. Something that even Ole Miss or Miss State doesn’t do. The recruiting aspect is a non factor especially in basketball. For whatever reason, the Memphis area just doesn’t produce the talent that it used to. UT playing a football game in Memphis will NEVER happen again unless we are 6-6 and stuck in the Liberty Bowl.

And yes, many Vol fans will never forgive One Cent for his actions and language toward Rick Barnes. Low class and uncalled for. And don’t get me started on their fans. Never seen a worse case of jealousy and an inferiority complex in fans. They absolutely despise UT and I see no sense in giving them any attention. Games with those clowns just aren’t worth the trouble and that’s about as plain as I can say it.
So you're saying the concern is that the game would help FedEx Forum ticket sales on one night every other year. I agree the recruiting/exposure angle is a non-factor. I don't see any obvious risk or detriment to UT.

It makes no sense to me that people would rather just quit than have the chance to beat an in-state rivalry every season. All of the things you said should be reasons to want the series imo. Why would you not want to spank the kitties?

The obvious risk is that I don’t want to listen to that bunch of sad sacks crowing if they happen to win a game. (Shelby County Vols still have to listen to 💩 about their one football fluke from 30 years ago.) And no, I don’t want to give the one penny every other year.

I don’t call it quitting. I call it ignoring them which is all they deserve. There is nothing in it for UT. Period.

I would also add Ga Tech for recruiting purposes. Maybe even Northwestern - Chicago area high schools suck for Football but they really know how to play hoops.

Not that it really matters, but Memphis has just been named the murder capitol of the country. A FBI taskforce is being sent to figure out what's wrong. (will take more than a taskforce to figure this place out). SO, if we home and home with them, who provides to security while we hunt for our car that we left in the parking lot?

Delmar....it seems most who've never lived in or near Shelby County do not understand the dynamics. For the Vols...there simply is NO advantage to playing Memphis EVER in any sport...EVER. I've been a Vol fan basically all my life (3 older brothers saw to that). Was raised in rural West Tennessee and never heard of Memphis State until a friend from high school got a football scholarship. Later when I moved to the Memphis area many years ago I tried to pull for Memphis. But an average Memphis fan WILL NOT LET YOU DO THAT. I actually lost a friend over this (not my choice...His). And when sports of any kind does that...its time to back off. I even have a daughter who served on Coach McNelis staff at Memphis for 4 years. But because of my experiences with typical Memphis fans...Memphis just isnt on my radar. So...I vote NO to playing Memphis....even in Corn Hole 🤷‍♂️!

Can’t add much to that Rich. All true. Folks that don’t live down here don’t get it. The difference between you and me is that I never tried to root for them. Was reminded early and often what they thought of UT and the SEC. Jealousy is a terrible character trait.

A big factor in my choice was which city I would like to visit the most, so I went with Houston. Memphis would rank last in that category for me. Apologies to any Memphis VFL's.

Still kind of pissed about traveling to the game in Nashville and finding out that it was canceled at the last minute due to Memphis players having COVID as I walked up to the arena plaza.

Was always bad there but now they have a soros prosecuter so murders go through a turnstyle and back to killing after a 3 hour stay at the Detench Inn.

I would like to play Memphis regularly once Penny leaves/is fired/whatever. His immaturity left a bad taste in my mouth but I think an in state rivalry would be nice.

I picked St Johns because of Madison Square Garden but Memphis would be my second choice. It was a great and fun rivalry before Penny. Isn't that enough of a reason to keep it going? Nevermind important exposure on the other side of the state.

How about Colorado State? I’m an alum and my daughter is a Jr to be at UT. There’s really nothing in it for the Vols, but I would enjoy it :).

Duke. We’ve done the NC thing, the UConn, thing, etc. would love to see the electricity this would create.

Haven’t we played in MSG something like 4 times in the last decade? I was at the last 2.
We have, but I didn't make it to any of them.
My daughter and son-in-law now have a two bedroom apt. within walking distance of MSG - so it would be perfect for me.

It probably won’t be long until you have another chance. That apartment is no doubt heart-stoppingly expensive. 😄 I live within Amtrak distance so I take it, since Penn Station is directly underneath MSG.

Rumor has it that we had a rock fight with Texas Tech at MSG a little while back, but I choose to remember it differently.
