On healthcare Trump missed a great opportunity to say that Biden would offer gov't healthcare to people here illegally and how that shows that Joe will not stand up to the far left in his party. I wish he'd done that. Why they haven't hammered Joe more on that issue I have no idea

That's a hit or miss answer. A hit if you are arguing to the base. If addressing the country which includes hordes of libs and undecideds, then you are probably going to fall into the the humanity trap (why we have an obligation to care for all humanity) which can easily make it a miss if you don't get to control the discussion, and a dud even if you do. Just one of those things better left alone when your are dealing with a large segment for whom rational thought is just a sentiment. It's the problem when we elect leaders based on ad campaigns rather than well documented (written) plans of action. However, in doing it this way all candidates have more flexibility after the election, and campaign promises mean nothing.

You're not going to get the bleeding hearts, but polls show this is a great issue for Republicans. Independents aren't for this

Biden could have said he was going to eliminate the oil industry and round up all the children and burn them alive for energy and it would probably have minimal effect. People’s minds were made up a long time ago, they’ve made their politics too much a part of their identities, and their minds will not be changing.

Better known as a SWAG - scientific wild ass guess. Something along the philosophy of hand grenades and horseshoes but implying so much more.
The other version is Sophisticated Wild A** Guess. But being an engineer I can appreciate the “scientific” slant as well.

Too bad the words “science” and “scientist” have become so politicized and are used so pejoratively e.g. in the public health or climate debates.

Edit: case in point: both of my kids, one who just graduated from Georgetown and the other a junior at Rice, are both still scared sh!tless by all the fearmongering around Covid, and when we try to talk some sense into them they fall back on “ the science”...

So in other words they are smart.

Smart people listen to science.

Many Conservatives are not smart so they hate science.

He's gonna fix that systemic racism that Trump started though

Id still like to know what laws are biased against blacks that don't apply to white? For there to be systemic racism, you must have those laws written, obviously biden had a hand in passing those laws

So in other words they are smart.

Your anti-science comment is a stupid post as one can post. Anti-science? You fools still be an unborn baby isnt a human even though science overwhelmingly has proven it. Want real science? Look at the science behind fetal development. Not like your evolution or fake global warming bs.

Well there’s smart and then there’s smart. I’m trying to get some work done right now, so I’ll leave it at that.

The undecided voters are the releunctant Trump voters. They don't want Biden at all but Trump keeps turning them off. If they haven't voted yet, last night only helped Trump. It didn't help Biden.

Based on the group of undecideds in an LA Times focus group, I think you are right. It is worth listening to the whole thing. Very surprising. Ones I was sure were in the tank for Biden reluctantly admitted they may have to vote Trump or not vote. No question Trumps debate performance helped him with reluctant voters than it did Biden.

It seems that outside engineering and some things like classical physics that "science" has become nothing more that supposition supported by statistics. And I've said it here many times the statistics are generally fixed by setting boundary conditions. Want to prove the earth is warming - just pick the right start and end points.

That is an inconvenient truth.

Discovery and advancement in all the sciences has involved supposition, aka hypothesis, and subsequent investigation.

Here is some fantastic collaborative investigation on climate science. Can you come up with better methodology?
