Who was the first UT? Texas or Tennessee.

Actually, the real UT (us) had its name changed by the State Legislature from East Tennessee University to the University of Tennessee in 1879, four years before 1883.

Same school son, established 1794.

Following your logic on name changes then Texas has only been around since 1968. They were the University of Texas. Now they're the University of Texas at Austin.

I had a Texas fan walk into my work today. Out of respect I said "strange to see a fan of the other UT here in Knoxville". He responded with "you know some call us the real UT".

I laughed and felt sorry for him.
