IF we were to fire Dooley, who in their right mind would want to come coach at UT?

Think about it... UT had a hard time getting someone to come in after Kiffin left because they knew they were coming in to a situation where they were basically going to have nothing to show from the 3 previous recruiting classes. Yet, we were able to get Dooley who has done a great job bringing in QUALITY recruits and was coaching with his hands tied behind his back the last 2 years with basically a high school team going against SEC level programs.

So, this is really the first year Dooley has had any chance of playing at an SEC level. We have lost to the #1, #2, #11 and #12 ranked teams in the nation and yet some of our fan base is wanting to fire Dooley. And we play the #7 team next weekend. We shouldn't have even been in any of those games yet he actually had us in a position to win 3 of those games. So, some want him fired.

Yeah, that's a job I would want to leave a solid program for. Petrino might be the only real option we could get and he is another Kiffin. You can go back to his days at Louisville when he went behind backs to flirt with Auburn.

Who would want a coach that would leave his team in the middle of the night and middle of the season and leaves a note for his players saying bye? At least Kiffin had the balls to tell the team he was leaving.

Sorry folks. It would be a mistake to let Dooley go at this time. He needs to be given at least one more year in order for us to have a legitimate chance at landing a decent coach IF Dooley doesn't produce. If you are going to build a program the right way, it will take time. Be patient.

No decent coach will come into an unreasonable position like UT is in right now. And if we can't get a home run then our program will be set back 1 -2 years and we will be in the same position in 2 years wanting to fire our coach again.

Be reasonable about your expectations. We won't be able to get the coach we would want at this time and with our recent history and already bailing on a quality coach doesn't make UT look like a very attractive option to a coach that would be a home run.

We did not have a hard time hiring a coach when we hired Kiffin he was Hamiltons choice.

There is no doubt that if we started a coaching search right now we would be able to hire a proven coach.

Complete bull****. There are plenty of coaches who aren't afraid of the challenge the SEC brings. In fact, they would welcome it. It's a chance to prove their mettle on college football's biggest stage.

UT has a roster that is capable of competing with the big dogs in the SEC right away, but it's going to take the right leader and the proper motivation--and we're sorely lacking both right now.

Plus, the fact that the chosen guy will end up signing a contract for several million dollars doesn't hurt either.

Whatever you say. Just keep watching espn for breaking news out of Knoxville! And by the way the reason we did not get a big name coach when Lane left was because it was 2 weeks before signing day plus Mike Hamilton at AD. We will land a big time hire this year.

I think most people in Georgia would agree with you

Not to mention the NCAA allegations that were looming.

That's why they were lining up the past 2 hires. NOT

Kiffin was not the first choice. Not even close.

OP, are you kidding? This job is a lot more attractive now, thanks to Dooley. He's laid down a good foundation for an established coach to take over. The talent level is higher than 08 and 10.

If we fire Dooley we are going to have to hire a high school coach. Better send a plane to Permian.

Are you crazy? Only reason we had a hard time hiring after Kiffin was because of our lack of depth, crappy AD and possible sanctions. None of those 3I exist anymore. We are in great position to hire the top tier guys. Dooley was our Shula, although Shula was a much better HC than Dooley.

We all know the answer to the OP's question (assuming that everything in that post is accurate). There is absolutely a BCS championship winning former head coach who would happily come coach the Vols and he'd do it on the cheap without a huge buyout. He'd be better than Dooley but I do not know that he'd take us where we want to end up and there'd be a small group of fans who would swear off all things orange for awhile if it happens. I do not want to type that name here as I'd rather look to the future than the past but the option is there if nothing else looks promising.
