actually, I'm not for grabbing a player's facemask, or any part of his body...it's not good for the coach, team, or university, but in this case and since he just barely tugged it I'm ok with it and I thought Coach Pruitt did a good job of abstaining from what he probably wanted to do...that play was a back-breaker...

PS. after the game Coach Pruitt took the blame...didn't throw anybody under the bus...we have a coach growing up very quickly, before our eyes....and, as always...

GO BIG ORANGE...BEAT THE GAMECOCKS!

It’s part of sports in general a coach tuning you up of a kid collapses after something like that he has no heart anyway.

I don't have a problem with it in the sense that i don't think it was abuse. However, I do have a problem with it as a coaching strategy. Yelling and screaming and showing players / kids/ employees up has never worked. Yes, people yelled, but whatever success happened afterwards occurred despite the yelling, not because of it.

I remember a discussion on the old Gridscape when Witten dropped a passed in Gainesville, and Fulmer patted him on the helmet when he came on the sidelines, like he was saying, "Get 'em next time. Keep your head up." People on that board excoriated Fulmer for that: called him "soft" and blah blah blah . . . And guess what happened?

I also remember Butch Jones yelling and showing up one of his five star recruits when he fumbled on the Georgia one-yard line. I also remember that five-star recruit quitting the team, transferring, and now playing in the NFL. Butch never recovered.

I think Jeremy will learn from this . . . It's not a generational thing. It's always been the same way. Parents used to beat their kids 'cause they were out of control jerks who had no self control and justified as good parenting. Thank goodness most parents to habitually beat their kids anymore . . . And, no, I don't think Pruitt beat JG, but showing the kid up on the sideline on national tv does not impress one person on his team . . . or motivate them . . .

This day and age is so damn soft. Just read an article about how this was unacceptable to ever put hands on a player and Pruitt should have known better. The only thing imo that Pruitt should have known better is playing his dumb a$$. Should have wildcat that series with Jennings. Best player on the field imo. This game had me so furious with the penalties and then JG pulls that mess. I was furious, so imagine what the head ball coach really wanted to do. Feel like he showed great restraint.

If JG had missed a pass that he normally hit.....I can understand (Whitten)
Hurd should have been sent to the locker room. He was a cancer. However, Jones wasn't in a position to degrade anyone having learned what a POS he is.
CJP did what he should have done considering what the kid did. He should have taken his helmet away and told him to sit his ass on the bench for the rest of the game.

You named 3 completely different situations that needed 3 different responses. JG has been doing this crap since he has been here. Last year was an indication that he couldn't be trusted, the first 2 losses were more of the same. He needs to be gone and what CJP did may help that along.

I didn’t like it. If it was my one of my sons I would have a huge problem with it. I think it’s really interesting as a society what we accept from coaches that we would not accept from anyone else in regards to our kids. But I’m obviously in the minority.

Kids? JG is 21 or 22 years old.

Everyone keeps forgetting that all of these players are young adults.

If I had botched it like JG, my coach would have knocked my helmet off and probably whacked me on the head with it, and I would have deserved it. I guess that's why he got to wear championship rings from when he played for Bear Bryant. The reality is that it was so minor that JG probably didnt know his mask had been touched till he read about it from the diaper-wearing media pundits.

Welcome to Generation Soft.
The accumulation of “snowflakes” will melt our culture/society from within. I was hit with a board by my coaches in HS for non-performance in the classroom. It was called “getting a lick”, and though we all dreaded the “paddle”, we all turned out just fine. What I. The hell has happened to us to where a coach cannot get upset and yell at a player. Like others, I think Jeremy showed incredible restraint.

Sometimes people are more honest with anonymity. I wanted a honest gauge of the board’s opinion.

Didn't know it was public or not when I voted.

Coach's intuition guides a good coach. You can't grab every kid by the face mask and a pat on the butt helps more than a butt chewing sometimes. But there are times, when actions on the field need a definitive response to their severity. CJP said in the post game interview that he wasn't deflated, he was pissed off. The hours spent at practice in situational scrimmages, etc. were wasted. Ignored maybe. He also took the blame for the game management right there and the miscommunication that was evident and he didn't throw his kid under the bus when all of the rest of us did. It was a teaching moment. The bigger concern is the student that's making the same mistakes over and over.

When I played football your face mask was just a handle for the coach to lead you around with.......or to get your undivided attention!!

Just curious to what the board thinks. Personally it didn’t bother me at all, maybe I’m in the minority on this one but to me that was a coach making sure he had his players undivided attention.
If Finebaum tries to make a story out of it, I’m calling in to shut it down. 🍸

I’ve got no problem with it because it was a one finger tug to get JG’s attention back.
NOW if he did what Lou Holtz did at Notre Dame in 1988ish (grabbed face mask of player with entire hand and walked him all the way back to the bench) then yes I would have a problem with that. That was Lou humiliating a player in front of the entire country. Not cool.

If you're in the 6%, you should probably start to realize that your point of view is likely wrong.

ETA: no longer 6%, now 3.5.

I grew up during the era of Bobby Knight where every freakin high school coach wanted/thought they were actually him.

Pulled face mask?

Lol, I have had basketballs winged off my head from me not paying attention. I have run until I puked for not setting a proper screen.

This slight tug was nothing.

I referenced “kids”, because many people have said they would be ok with this, and more, done to their kids. I’m saying I would not. I understand JG is an adult, however many times people here refer to the players as kids (not saying you have). There is plenty of research to back up my position, regardless if the person involved is a child or an adult. My position being that this type of leadership is not the most effective.
I certainly don’t think it’s a horrible thing to have happened. I’m not losing sleep over it, and I don’t think Pruitt should be tired or anything like that. I’m just giving my opinion. As I said, I realize I’m in the minority, and I don’t expect anyone to sway to my “side”.
