Allen Houston had a nice NBA career but who had the better career at UT?

Lofton's career isn't over. We should ask this when he's done.

But right now, NCAA Tournament appearances:

Lofton's Vols: 1, soon to be 2
Houston's Vols: 0

Houston's Vols: 0<-- coached by Wade

just a little addition

Exactly...but that's why I voted for Lofton...the sky is the limit.

Like the others have said it's to early to say since Chris's career isn't over.

Nerd alert warning:

It's Allan Houston, not Allen

And I say Lofton edges him simply b/c of the impact he has on the team. Houston was an amazing player - I think Lofton makes everyone else better.

Houston was the better player, Lofton will have had the better career because he's been surrounded by a better basketball program for the majority of his career

I agree completely. Houston was the better player but he had no one around him.

How much better did Lofton make other guys when he played for Buzz Peterson? The credit for this team's success begins and ends with Bruce Pearl. Houston was a much, much better player. All the people picking Lofton in this thread need to go to the NFL forum and erase all of their posts that Peyton Manning is superior to Tom Brady. If you're going to credit individual players for team achievement, be consistent.

To be fair, Lofton was a true freshman under Buzz Peterson, but I agree that it's not even close. Houston was better.

I'm no hatvol but Houston is a much better player. Houston did what he did with no team around him.

Lofton though has had better sucess as a team player. He has a SEC East Championship, a NCAA appearance, a buzzer beater in the 1st round, SEC AP Player of the Year award and hopefully a solid run this year.

Houston had a finals appearance in the SEC tourney I believe one year. I think they lost to Arky the eventual National Champs?? I am not sure on that.

they lost to alabama in tha finals. houston better player, but i bet he would have loved to have played for pearl and of course pearl would love to have him. allan houston in my opinion is a top 5 all time sec player.

Yea, but the poll does not ask who was the better player, it asks who had the better career. People can interpret that in different ways. So far, Lofton is having a much better career if you consider the success of the teams.

Also, I don't want my comments in this thread to be in any way construed as criticism of Lofton. He's simply just not as good as Houston.

as great as Lofton is, I rate Allan Houston as the second best player ever to play for UT, behind Bernard King. When it's all said and done, though, Lofton will find a place comfortably in the Top Ten, if not the Top Five.

Coaching makes a huge difference. I maintain, for example, that if Vincent Yarbrough had been well-coached, he could have been the best player we've ever had. Amazing skills, even as a freshman.

If Yarbrough's skills were that good, he wouldn't be playing in Europe. He's not in the NBA because he doesn't have NBA talent.

He did play in the league for a period of time, so he did, in someone's opinion, have the talent for the NBA.

Yeah, a Denver Nuggets personnel department that was fired immediately after that season.

Yarbrough had the length and athleticism to play in the NBA, never the skills or work ethic.

I love Lofton but Houston was the better all around player mainly I think because of Houston’s size and athleticism. Houston could post up on occasion. Lofton, not so much. Although he's really improved his overall game this year I'm still not convinced he'll play in the NBA.

Yarbrough...I still remember him making the comment about not caring about boxing out. Just another example of Jerry Greens ineffectual coaching style. “Do what thou wilt” doesn’t work for any organized level of sports.

We all love Lofton and we all love Houston. And the question, as someone clarified, is who had the better career? I take that as overall accomplishments - not just scoring accomplishments. Houston was a better individual scorer, no doubt. One of the best college scorers ever. And so much fun to watch.

IMO, Lofton has had the better career b/c of his overall accomplishments - scoring, defense, impact on the team. Bruce Pearl deserves a TON of credit for this turnaround, do doubt. (We all love him). But Lofton's had a lot to do with it too - and do give him credit for being recruited by one coach and then seamlessly (seemingly so) transitioning to become conference POY under another coach in 2 seasons.

And as for Yarbrough - probably had some talent, but no player was going to develop at all under Green, and not much under Peterson.

Houston is the more talented of the two, but I believe his father's legacy unfairly tarnishes people's view of him.
