eh..maybe, we'll see. Anyone can have a good defense with that Miami talent. And you know the guy wants to be a head coach again...and I'm tired of these coaches using Tennessee as a stepping stone.

That wasn't the question. RS is the best defensive coordinator choice of that list. And his connections to the southern Florida area is priceless. Even if he is here for two years, it would be well worth it.

The order I like theses guys

Chavis
Shannon
Steele
Thompson

We need recruiting help and I think Shannon is the best listed, followed by Steele.. Chavis is a good x's and o's guy, but doesn't have that enthusiasm for recruiting the others do.. Lsu is the perfect place for him, and I think that's where he will stay for a long time..

I agree with Shannon but Steele is a good recruiter but not a good x's & o's guy.look at the points his def. gives up in the ACC.I would take Chavis over Steele in a heartbeat.

I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK some guys are all over steele but he has not impressed me at all and shannon has with miami in the acc i like the way his defense attacks and makes plays thats what we need

I'd take Steele with Brooks/Hobby but Shannon is still a great hire and I have no issues with it at all

2. Great Recruiter
3. South FL Connections for recruiting
4. Could start today- not coaching right now
5. Head Coaching Experience at a BCS Schoo

Randy Shannon got my vote because John Chavis isn't even a serious possibility for starters...right ??

I would think that a guy like Chavis would see his university struggling and some part of him would want to help. Just my opinion but I believe he would honestly listen, consider it and then say no

According to a couple people on here that are either in or seem to know that area very well, those connections aren't exactly what the used to be and a few bridges have been burned.

Also, our one resident Cane fan around here didn't exactly have glowing remarks about Shannon's defenses during his time there. According to him, Shannon seemed to run a pretty conservative scheme that looked amazing due to having a future All Pro NFL roster.

Not saying he still wouldn't be a good hire, or even still better than Steele, but people's viewpoints seem to be a little myopic on this subject.

I just don't understand the infatuation with Chavis all of a sudden? Three years ago all we heard was "Third and Chavis, Third and Chavis".... Get a grip people, with all the talent at LSU, I could coordinate a NC defense.

I'm not 100% sold on Shannon, simply for the fact that he would not be here long. If he fields some decent D's, then it's just a matter of time before he is offered another HC gig.

I wouldn't mind Steel because of his UT ties, but I personally think CLT deserves his shot. JMO.

Wouldn't that be the case for ANYBODY we hire ??

One could only hope so, however, someone with UT ties would probably be more inclined to hang around for a bit longer. Also, the fact that Shannon is pretty much a Miami guy and has already been a HC, would make him a little more appealing to other schools.

In my case it's not all of a sudden with coach Chavis. We had some damn good defenses under him. His bad defenses compared with our d last year. Yeah ,that would have ranked with one of his worst squads.

You make some very good points reguarding Shannon and Steel. But from what coach Dooley said yesterday they are gonna go with whoever they think can help em win this year.

Randy Shannon, but if for some reason he turned us down I would want to see Thompson be promoted. He has been loyal to Tennessee, paid his dues and deserves the opportunity

1 . Randy Shannon - Big Time name and hire.

Why on earth are Nix , Bumpas , and Diaz eliminated ?
