White just admitted........

That he wasn't even considering Heupel for this job.

ESPN also reporting what most "insiders" were saying. We were flat rejected by all the coaches White thought were better than Heupel.

UCF's Heupel named Tennessee's next coach
Face it bro.... right now.... at this moment.... UT’s program is a latrine. When the Vols start beating Vandy on a regular basis.... not lose to KY by double digits at home.... start scoring over 10 points a game and get to 8-4 on a regular basis... then we can talk about getting a big name hire.... until then..... it’s not the 90’s anymore bro

On that we agree. But both yourself and the media are pretending all of these people were “offered the job”. That’s much different. According to our AD he only offered 1 person

I guarantee that he talked with several. I'm sure several told him they were not interested long before any offer was made.

I don't believe for a second, freeze or kiffin was made a legitimate offer and they turned it down. I don't believe fisher was made an offer

OK. That's fine if you want to be pedantic. My point is only that there was a sizable list of coaches that UT wanted and tried to offer the job to but they shut us out so they fell back to plan b,c,d,e and f and got Heupel.

If people just think about how absurd this hire was they would get it. If Heuple was going to be the coach from day 1 then it would have happened. We offered him entry-level money to come be UTs coach. That fact alone proves he wasn't sought after until the very end when all had failed. White's little dance around the obvious he did to try and smooth things over was admirable but you got to take that with a big chunk of salt. "I didn't want to steal Heupel away from UCF, but in the end I did it anyway" LOL OK dude whatever (eye roll)

If he truly believed Heupel was the #1 best fit for Tennessee he would have named him head coach Sunday and had the presser on Monday morning.
You can't stand up in a presser and say "Presenting our 35th choice to head the University of Tennessee Volunteer football team... coach Josh Heupel. We are so happy to have him here and think he will do wonders..." That would be stupid. CJH deserves a chance. I guess. But I expect mediocrity and hope to eat crow. I guess it is the BVS kicking in.

It looks like the AD hired his friend from the same school he just left.

The idea that there was a wholesale national search and a coach from the "same school" is the only one willing to come here is laughable.

Does that mean he won't succeed? Of course not. But it is what it is.

If Heuple is the last resort(I don't think he was), that fact is very telling with respect to the state our program and our best move to help is to support White and Heuple and that's what you should do too.

I’m certain he’s proud of what he was able to accomplish at UCF. It’s the gentleman thing to do, not gutting the program you built into relevancy. If he could have hired a quality coach without plucking the one from his previous stop I’m sure he would have, but that’s just not how it works sometimes. It sucks for them but I’m sure they will find the right man to fill that spot. They are one of the best Group of 5 programs in the country.

That’s where I’m at..... people have asked me several times about CJH today and all I could think to say was “they’re lucky they could get anyone under the circumstances”

Until UT gives a coach assurances of hands off everything except for anything illegal or immoral, the very best will lot come here. No one at the top of the heap will settle for being dictated to about his job by functional idiots.

So, would the states criteria of not having previous NCAA/ethical issues be a term “dictated to” the AD by “functional idiots” Boyd and Plowman?

If you read carefully, the scenario described applies to giving a head coach a free hand ONCE THEY ARE HIRED. I guess that means they could still limit who was hired, although I think that is short sided and should be looked at on a case by case basis. Some people do reform and learn.

I don't see any of those guys being a fit for Tennessee right now. Especially Fisher for heavens sake. Out of coaching how many years, never recruited... I'd have taken Elliott over him in a heartbeat.

If that’s the case, it’s even worse we didn’t go get Chadwell. Can’t get out of our own way.

Is there any legitimate concern that Heupel isn’t going to be granted a free hand, save for anything illegal or immoral?

Absolutely not what that article said:

“White said Heupel was his top candidate based on his integrity, history of winning titles and being an innovative football mind who has led explosive offenses.”

Nice try.

Did you administer a lie detector test? You just don't give up on your program hurting negativity do you?

I am assuming he was lying because the alternative--that he's incompetent--is much worse.

This is a public forum where we debate and express our opinions--both good and bad--and right now there's a lot of bad to talk about. Don't blame me. Send an email to Phillip Fulmer.
As far as "program hurting negativity"....I am a nobody...what I do or think has no substantial impact on Tennessee.

Tennessee should be concerned about the future interest of my demographic though. Managerial upper middle class upper 30 year old alum settling into my forever role with growing disposable income and zero interest in becoming a donor or renewing my season tickets. In 20-30 years the next Haslams, Thorntons, and Andersons are in this demographic and were losing interest.

Before anyone pops a vessel up in here, did you really think that CJH was the first coach on the ADs wish list? Of course not.

Now, CJH is.employed by the State govt, he like all other spokespeople of that government twist words, fake feelings, a go.right to the threshold of outright lies. It's what govt officials do. Might as well get used to it and root for the team.

Right. What this means is nobody was sent a contract to sign. But lots of coaches were reached out to to see if they wanted the job. this is a fact already reported on. And I absolutely believe he didn't have a pre-conceived idea of who he would hire..... including Heupel.
Yep. We’ve got some real fools on this board.

We got rejected many times. So much so we didn’t even get to offer. That stinks, but it’s better than the notion that JH was at the top of the list. White should be fired if we only attempted to land JH.

But we know that’s not the case
