Which SEC teams are in danger of losing 3 more games in 2017 than in 2016?

Playing GT to open the season is a completely different animal than playing them with a week to prepare. There's no excuse losing that game this season.

I've got them down as a gimmie game too.

Our defense just needs to keep it in front of them and hit their assignment everytime.

Offense needs to play with a sense of urgency, it could turn into a shootout and I'm fine with that.

This team will go as far as the OL takes them. If significant improvement is made, then 9 or more wins is a possibility. However, if the OL is a continuing weakness for this team, expect a stagnant offense with some unexpected losses.

Tech would be a bad loss but could happen. SC and Vandy won't happen. The players overlooked those two last year and there are too many returning players that have that mark on them. Our better than their players will have fun punishing them this year. 2016 Vandy did a disservice to 2017 Vandy team. Vandy will be one of those 56-0 nothing kind of games and SC will be like 45-17 type win.

That game was circled the night of last years loss for both of them.

That's how I feel about those two games.

I hope your crystal ball is correct. I POSITIVELY like the way you think.

And Rick Barnes' squad was picked to finish dead last in the SEC this year. You see how well some of these predictions turn out.

I believe the expectations on TN basketball this year were fair but you would have to be completely blind to the program and the amount of talent we have returning this year to say that we would do well to get 6 wins.

Probably a good thing that expectation and hype is low.. They won't go in with a bubble head this time the first game. GA Tech will be somewhat of a challenge.. Didn't they lose one of their headliner players this off season??

How many points per game will team 121 score?

Less than team 120, that's for sure.....5 or 6 wins?

I'm more optimistic this year Ryan last year. I think qb situation is overblown. I believe defense will be much better an offense will only take slight hit

The past couple seasons have shown high expectations for the Vols. For once I think it will be good for this team to fly under the radar. I think having that "world against us" and "back against the wall" mentality can actually benefit this team. We shall see.

This. :good!:

UT hasn't lived up to expectations recently but they've had no trouble living down to them either in the past.

Ouch. Well all we can do is get to work and prove everybody wrong. It might be a blessing to have the preseason pressure off the team since we will have a lot of new guys in big roles.

I am hoping the team has a chip on its shoulder and pops GT in their freaking mouth week 1. It's time we start playing like Tennessee.

Like us they lost their QB, and like us he was the central focus of their offense. They've had 11 transfers since their bowl game.

The game has little to do with them. All we need is a D performance and we still win.

It would be great to be hitting on all cylinders, but that seems to only happen to very inferior teams and bowl games.

2017 is all about the Vols.

We have the talent to win a NC. We just have to get it together and make a historic run.

2015 we were a 1st half team.

2016 we were a 2 half team.

2015 we had a better 2nd half of the year.

2016 we had a better 1st half of the year.

2017 will be the best of both years.

That's why CBJ hired Rock, to put an edge on these guys. So far CBJ has been developing polite young men, Rock is about to tap into their meanness.

By the time Rock is done with them, our guys will be "cut throat".

Dude, Butch Jones no Rick Barnes, who is a surefire HOF coach. Barnes has shown in year two that he can overachieve with less while Jones has proven he will underachieve in years 3 and 4 with more. Understand your sentiment, but it's apples to oranges imo.

Losing your 1st and 2nd string across your whole defense is hardly underachieving. Offense should have been enough though, you'd think

Absolutely ridiculous statement. How many times in the last 4 years have ween watched the D get gassed and start giving up big plays because of the 3-in-outs on the offensive side of the ball?

It would be great to be hitting on all cylinders, but that seems to only happen to very inferior teams and bowl games.

Gee, looks like a pattern maybe?

2017 is all about the Vols.

Only in the eyes of us Vols fans; we've not even stayed relevant in the the division title race the last 4 years, much less the conference title race.

We have the talent to win a NC. We just have to get it together and make a historic run.

Lol.

2015 we were a 1st half team.

No. We were a choke-prone coached team who consistently got uptight and ultra-conservative with the playcalling once UT had any sort of lead.

2016 we were a 2 half team.

Because we had a come back in the second half against Florida we were a second half team? How'd we play in the second half of the App State/Ohio/USCe/Vandy games?

2015 we had a better 2nd half of the year.

That's because the second half of our season is filled with SECe cellar dwellers.

2016 we had a better 1st half of the year.

The team looked as unprepared and sloppy in the first half, as they did in the second half. We struggled against every opponent regardless of their skill or talent level

2017 will be the best of both years.

Pure speculation based on blind hope in the face of the reality that we're breaking in a new QB with little college playing time, or zero college playing time. We have a new OC with zero OC experience at any level. We lost both of our starting running backs, and we lost the majority of the consistent talent and production on our defense.

Release the Beast!

Adding that to the end of all your posts, makes it very difficult to take your opinions seriously.

Really? You disagree with every statement I made?

To start with when I said D performance, I was referring to a grade of a "D", not so much our defense. But if our defense has a good game it might turn into a blow out.

We did not struggle against Tn Tech( You said every.). The Nebraska game was a solid performance.

I've seen freshman players ball out. It's not that wild of a thought.

120 was the most inconsistent team I've ever watched. 121 has to improve on that, 120 was statistical anomaly. When have we ever beat Florida and Ga, then lose to Vandy.

You act like you are preparing for the team. I thought I was posting with fellow Vol fans. I would say something totally different to the players. Something to rattle their chain, really push some buttons to put them in a bad mood. Then let them take the field. Our guys are playing a game they love with the people they love. I would have them hating bama and have them try to scuff them up. No dirty hits but nasty every time.

We have a bunch of nice guys. That's great off the field not so great in the field.

That's Rock's wheelhouse. He puts a chip on the shoulders of his team. These guys will need to confess on Sunday for what they do on Saturday.

We didn't lose our 1st and 2nd string across our whole defense....not even close, it's a major inaccurate overstatement on your part.

We lost....
1 starting DT (Obrien) who played in the first 6 games and 2 second string DTs (Shy and KMac).

1 starting LB (JRM) who only played in 4 games and 1 starting LB (DKJr)who played in 7 games. We lost Sapp who was evidently 3rd string, given that it was McDowell who went in to replace JRM when he was ejected vs App State.

1 starting CB (Sutton) who played in 7 games

So, not only did we not lose "our first and second string across our whole defense", most of the guys we lost played at least half the season, and half the positions (DE, CB opposite Sutton, Safeties) weren't affected by injury at all.

I do agree that the offense that averaged 36 points per game should've been more than enough. But when your defense gives up 37 TOUCHDOWN drives of 60 yards or more throughout the season, it makes your offense's job just too difficult.

Bottom line....yes, no matter how you look at it, the team underachieved....it's not even up for debate imo.

You're post is an attempt to gloss over the shortcomings of the past two seasons, and paint them as some sort indicator that 2017 is going to a NC-capable team. All-the-while, completely disregarding the fact that nearly all of the playmakers from the 2015 and 2016 season sare not on the roster in 2017. It's definitely one of the most illogical predictions that you've tried to pedal on here.

Team 120's "inconsistency" has no bearing what-so-ever on team 121 being successful; it's a complete non sequitur. Besides inconsistency is a relative statement, and team 120 was actual consistently unprepared to play 60 minutes of football every Saturday.

As far as hiring Rock Gullickson goes, having an actual S&C coordinator is definitely better than not having one as we saw last season, but judging from the St.Louis Ram's record while he was on board, "the edge" that you seem to think he will put on the team over the next six months doesn't seem to be very sharp. Hopefully he has a new whet stone for his time at UT.
