Because of the bowl tie ins, Tennessee is in a great spot. The league has 11 tie ins but only 9 teams currently eligible. Plus who qualifies for the playoff. If 2 teams make the playoffs then we bump up 1 more spot. Win tomorrow we finish 5th overall with 5-3 league record, provided A&M doesn't upset LSU and Auburn doesn't upset Bama. That 5th place spot means (Outback, Music City or Taxslayer).

SEC tie ins:

Actually (from the same thing this image comes from):

Following the Citrus Bowl, there will be a pool of six bowls comprised of the Outback Bowl in Tampa (vs . Big Ten), Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl in Nashville (vs ACC/ Big Ten), TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville (vs ACC/Big Ten), AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis (vs Big 12), Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl in Houston (vs Big 12) and Belk Bowl in Charlotte (vs ACC). In consultation with SEC member institutions, as well as these six bowls, the conference will make the assignments for the bowl games in the pool system.”

So pretty much finishing at a 5th place spot means any of those 6 bowls.

I would like UT to play in a bowl that is consistent with their season of work. Not their history of work. We could be a middle of the road SEC Team. We should play a team from a power 5 conference, in equal standing. Unfortunately, bowl executives will pit us against PSU, or Michigan, with $$$$ in their eyes, and UT will get steamrolled.

TBH, while I don't like all the SEC v Big10 tie in bowls, as long as it's a warm destination I'm good with it. Bahamas Bowl would be great if it was a bigger bowl. Need some new ones too.... The St. Croix Bowl, Aruba Bowl, Turks and Caicos Bowl, Cancun Bowl, etc..

Remember when we took over Tampa last time?
What a beautiful sight.
Best fans in the country...

I was at that game. I remember an usher and a neutral football fan look around and smile in amazement as the stadium echoed Rocky Top all day. He also said that he had never heard any other fans as enthusiastic as Tennessee

PSU or Michigan would be a woodshed moment. We ain't there, yet.
We had the chance to hang an "L" on Bama a few weeks ago, had the officiating not been some of the most brazenly corrupt in the history of televised sports and had our (now-playing-better) QB not decided to freelance on the goal line. I don't think UM and PSU are better than Bama.

I wouldn't think we drop below the Music City bowl. I could see us going to the Gator though. We travel well as a fanbase, and it being our first bowl in a few years will only magnify that. We should be very attractive to any of the pool of 6 bowls.

I kinda hope we get the Belk bowl....for my own selfish reasons. I live like 45 min from Charlotte now. I can still probably make the Gator bowl too tho. Only 5 hour drive. Stay the night. Get drunk with the wife. :p

Hopefully it's the Gator versus Iowa and we can continue our streak of beating down slooooowww big10 schools in bowl games.

I dont want Penn State. Not sure we win that one...and I want to end this season with 8 wins and having won 7 out of our last 8 games with Bama being the only loss. Great momentum going into next year...

Let's be honest though...this extra month of practice we get due to making a bowl game is huge for next year. Almost another fall camp. It's a big disadvantage as far as player development to not make a bowl game. That is 2nd only to the new hard cap on recruits as far as factors that make a rebuild so very difficult these days. It will be SEVERAL MORE YEARS before we have 85 players on scholarship on Saturdays like our opponents have. Extremely stupid rule IMO...and the fact that every team we have played in the last 6 games has nearly 30 more players than we have makes our 5 and 1 record even more impressive.

Think about it guys...with only 22 more players on scholarship than us...these teams have 1 extra player for EVERY POSITION on offense and defense than we have. Every. Position. Now consider that we are down MORE than 22 players. That should really give you Negas pause when you go to criticizing Coach Pruitt. He is playing with 2/3 of an SEC football team...and with a win over the Commonwhores he will be 5 and 3 in the SEC this year.

Yeah. He should be 2nd behind only Whoregeron for SEC coach of the year.

I noticed you changed "if" to "had". I like our improvement, but I'm a realist, and we're a lot better than when we started this season. We just don't have the depth of either UM or PSU.

It looks like there's no chance of a Tennessee-Louisville Music City Bowl matchup with Louisville losing 45-13 to Kentucky

Kentucky will get some has been ACC joker (maybe FSU since they have past ties to Stoops) in the MCB -- doubt if ND goes there to play Kentucky

I think Virginia Tech or Pitt would beat Kentucky and I think the MCB would be interested in either one
