The secondary benefited more from a stout DL than anything. I don't think it had anything to do with coaching. There is way too much emphasis on position coaches on this board and the results from season to season. Martinez is the perfect example. He was the unanimous coach to be let go from 2021-2023, now he is great because our secondary played well, specifically the CB's. What changed.... players. It's the same thing with WR's. The WR position coach has very little effect on the results on a Saturday. It's much more about the player/scheme/QB. J. Smith and R. Williams could have played for UT this year and had dominant seasons. What changed (theoretically)... players.
OL coach has the most impact on their unit. WR/RB coaches have the least impact.
OL and WR rooms have failed to develop their recruits and failed in assessing talent. There is room for improvement in these areas. There is way too much emphasis on position coaches on this board and the results from season to season. Martinez is the perfect example. The DL was just as good, if not better in 2023 while the secondary was substantially worse in 2023. The change in performance was due to the players (specifically Gibson/McCoy).The secondary benefited more from a stout DL than anything. I don't think it had anything to do with coaching.
So Sims is an amazing position coach because of the emergence of Sampson this year? Or is Sampson simply a great RB with or without Sims?OL and WR rooms have failed to develop their recruits and failed in assessing talent. There is room for improvement in these areas.
It always is..The point I'm making is there is too much emphasis on position coaches. It's about the players.
