I agree. This is not comparable to 9-11. I guess some folks dont want to talk about current issues, like a top ranked b-ball team perhaps?

yeah I wish we had current threads around like about the new OC or the bball team :ermm: don't like the title then just don't click it.

Word.

Both of those are much better subjects. The Peyton worship has gotten tot he point that it is nauseating.

Almost as bad as the cute little websites spouting off Tebow's greatness when compared to Chuck Norris?

But yes the PM thing is old.

That's a good point. The Tebow-worship at UF is already worse than the Manning-worship ever got while he was still at UT.

the Tebow worship is completely absurd. Those lunatics even want to give him an inordinate amount of credit for the national title they won. The guy was a sidelight freak show during that season.

Guess they have to be absurd, because there is going to be no NFL glory to validate his greatness.

Yeah...

What did Peyton do while he was at UT again?

Besides winning a SECC by 1 point

I dont understand why we worship him so much - kid could never even beat Florida.

Because he won 39 football games... it's not so much what he couldnt do to Florida but what he did to everyone else.

time will tell if Tebow is worshipped as heavy ten years after he's away from Florida as Peyton is today. I don't think he will be.

I was on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. News is scarce onboard, but it was actually on the TV international news. The next day it appeared in the one page New York times edition they have on ship (or did at that time). All the jumping around in our cabin could have caused a tsunami.

Agree to disagree.

The question is being asked (and somberly answered) in such a way as to compare the significance of the event to the assasination of JFK and landing on the moon. What a freakin' joke.

I didn't see any ref. to these two events, and cannot imagine anyone equating Manning's announcement to them. Hate to date myself, but I saw all three, or in the case of JFK, saw the initial newsreport. I've never seen or felt such a reaction nationally, to include 911. Even people who were ardent JFK haters, and there were many, were shocked beyond their imagination. Perhaps 911 was somehow expected to happen sooner or later, and/or humanity has grown so jaded and callous and accustomed to violence, it takes more to get the same reaction.

The biggest factor in the Manning-worship was that he came back for his senior year when he could have been a very high pick (No. 1? I don't remember), thus validating a fanbase that feels perennially slighted by everything. Tebow will never have the opportunity to do the same for UF because A) the Gators never feel slighted by anything, and B) there'll be no question of him going early because he's not going to be any kind of a pro QB prospect.

I was in 8th or 9th grade, can't remember. They stopped class so we could watch the conference on TV.
