Where there's smoke there's fire?

Butch's day of reckoning has been coming for awhile. A lot of programs would've fired him after losing to bad SC and VU teams last season. He got the benefit of us being in transition in the offices of chancellor and AD. The suggestion that whatever is happening now is a knee-jerk reaction to the UF loss is disingenuous to say the least. Some people dug their heels in on Butch long ago and now they will follow him off the cliff rather than admit they were wrong and, Lord forbid, give satisfaction to the people they've devoted their energies to insulting and demeaning.

Wiggins would leave, but there's no point at this stage in his career. He wanted to be a big time player in the sec to get some attention but now he's stuck on the bench. Kinda in no mans land.

I also don't see JG leaving. He would have to sit a year before he could play so he wouldn't get to play any sooner if he just stayed here. Unless he went the JUCO route to play. He will have a full two years here but probably more.

Sorry, but volnation is making this situation worse. Everyone knows what needs to happen. A smart fan base would close their mouths and make it easy.

It is very far fetched to think a decision on the status of a head coach is going to be determined this early in the season... and I don't think anyone who posts to an internet message board is going to be in touch with what Thornton, Haslam and Co. are thinking... Not to mention, it's Currie's call anyway. Not buying a word of this.

Very little is "far fetched" anymore.. With the 'trail of bread crumbs' Butch has left over the last few years, absolutely nothing would surprise me after that clusterf**k I witnessed Saturday...

You do what you want, but I am going to voice my opinion until something gets done. Feel free to leave this board anytime.

I have never been a Jones fan, but for multiple reasons I can't imagine us dismissing him this year...most notably because we know how that movie ends...not well...of course we are talking about UT's administration...should it happen how much money would be owed?

You seriously think we want Butch gone simply because he lost this one game. Really? Have you watched the past few years guy? The entire Butch era?

3 games into the season.....in his FIFTH YEAR.

I could name a plethora of missed games..

1. Oklahoma

2.Every Florida game since butch came to Tennessee with the exception being 2016

3. Alabama 2015

...just to name a few.

By the end of this year the guy will have coached 60... SIXTY games excluding bowl games..

We have not 1 divisional win, not 1 conference title, not 1 playoff spot, not 1 NC.

4 nacho bowl games later.. and where are we?? Still with a lame dang duck mac coach who lost to a down Florida team..

I spoke to coach Fulmer a couple of weeks ago in Chattanooga. The conversation came up about a coaching change. He said " are you kidding me" have you watched the coaching train wreck over the last few years. He was very complimentary of what CBJ has done at Tennessee thus far. No way MANNING says anything as well.

Unless the wheels some completely off this year there is not way anything happens. Fans are overreacting to a hurtful loss but we are much closer to being relevant than most see. Florida has possibly the second best defensive line that we will face. Second half we were pushing them around.

It's guys like you who are going to chase off a lot of opportunities and make this transition a lot more difficult then it needs to be. Maybe that's your intention though. What are saying that needs to be said? I suppose you are a Gruden believer as well though. I'll be watching from a far, but I've seen this movie play out too many times now.

Exactly. Folks, we lost a football game. Is this what college football has come to? Every time we lose a game, coaches should be fired, teams are lost, and players transfer? Good God talk about a "house of cards" program. So before any of you jump off a bridge, let's let the season play out and see what happens. We could still win the east for all we know. People yelling to "fahr Butch" 3 games into the season at 2-1 Is category 5 retarded. Let the season play out first!

You honestly think that one game is thebcause of people wanting CBJ gone?

Well agree to disagree then because imo you are the type of person who destroys programs. Apathetic and worthless.

I've never once advocated for us hiring Gruden. I've said multiple times we should hire Venables at Clemson.

Sounds like a similar deal that happened during a bad loss to South Carolina last year. If it's true.

Well alrighty then.....the staff self imploding like last year and the star QB recruit for the future is bouncing because he can run at least and throw 3 picks in one game like legless QD. Actually sounds about right.

Another great recruiting class lined up yet the fan base is revolting on the HC...new AD is not putting up with mediocrity already....feeling like Butch Jones <,>, or = Ron Zook...if his head roles from the chopping block...going to take a HUGE name to keep this class to not set us back 2 more years and have a mass exodus from the current roster. Finally we have what appears to be an AD that wants title contenders not great recruiters that turn 4-5* talent into 3* production. BTW....Holly Warwick that means you too...Rick Barnes has a small window given what he inherited imho but it is real tiny of one.

Like a UT version of ground hogs day. I've seen my fair share of coaching changes since '65, but if I'm being honest, I'm not sure I have the taste for yet another one.

Bound to happen, but I'm not looking forward to another 5-7 year rebuild.

Sounds like immature BS to me. Byrd is Scotts recruit. JG and his parents always showed love to Jones. Wiggins can't crack the starting line up. Peyton Manning is not one to run away from this. Especially since he never beat Florida. Oh well

I agree with your skepticism. Doesn't mean it isn't true. We will just have to watch and see.

So in 5 years our best win was against a Florida team that finished 14th in the AP poll?

As far as a rivalry game goes yes. As far as in general... Ummm..

Probably yea again.. ever since 2013 we lost to Oregon who was #2 at the time.

Florida 4 now 5 times

Lost to ole Miss who was #3 at the time

Lost to

Auburn 23_55

Oklahoma with a 20 point lead

Arkansas-20_24

Pretty much every team Tennessee has won... Has been against unranked teams.

Why? It happened to Les Miles about 1 year ago. He won a national championship and played for another one at the program that canned him and is a pretty well respected coach by most pundits and other coaches.

You act like Tennessee has never canned a head coach. Tennessee fired Johnny Majors and Philip Fulmer, but suddenly Butch is out of reach?

Yea and look at who they ended up with. If Currie pulls the trigger he damn sure better have someone lined up before hand.
