Where is everyone staying

Hey everyone... been lurking on here for years, posting here and there... went to UT for undergrad and grad school, and then worked at NC State after school. Now I live in a condo in Midtown Atlanta, right on Peachtree, right next to a MARTA station. I am thinking about throwing a game day party in my clubroom and pool, probably something like 11am until 3pm to give everyone time to get down to the Dome and their tailgates. Just gauging the interest from everyone. We can reserve the entire clubroom which includes multiple TVs, a home theatre room, two kitchens, a pool table and have access to the pool for $200 plus a $300 deposit. So if we can get 50 people or so at $5 a pop and dont mess up anything (so I get my deposit back) we can have a good time. Let me know if you are interested.

I would stay in Buckhead/Midtown area. It is less than 9miles from the stadium, much nicer, cleaner and safer.

Consider the Perimeter Center--near a marta line, lots of restaurants, shopping...

I'll be at the La Quinta at Perimeter Center, right beside MARTA. My only thought is will they let me bring a UT styrofoam cooler with me.

You're right. Guests at the ritz are mugged, raped, and murdered on a regular basis

It's funny how inaccurately people perceive Downtown Atlanta vis-a-vis Midtown & Buckhead. There are definitely way worse areas than Downtown, just like there are better ones. But I've worked downtown since 2004 and I walk to the done all the time. I've never had even a slight problem. I got burglarized living in Midtown though, and my wife had her car broken into there. There is enough violent crime around Piedmont Park (Midtown) to make your toes curl if you care to read the police reports. Atlanta is a bit different than an outsider might expect.

Regardless, for those who are concerned, let me offer a bit of advice as a person who has lived in Midtown/Downtown since 2004: don't lurk around near public parks after everyone else has gone home and gone to bed. If you can manage to avoid that, you'll have a great time here.

Yes, that is what I was told. The last time we stayed with the team was at the Westin in Pasadena in 2008. Lots of fun for my 10 (6 at that time) year old son and it was pretty cool for an old guy like me too. Go Vols!!

Stayed there in 08 also..was in the lobby when the team arrived...

There is so much going on in the city that weekend that I suggest staying close to downtown. Omni, Westin. If you stay up north near 400 you will be stuck in traffic for hours.

Me and 3 other friends are staying at the Crowne Plaza in college park near the airport. Any of y'all staying there too?

Exactly. I've stayed at the Westin, Marriott Marquis and Sheraton downtown and walked over to the Dome and never had a problem. There is usually a good police presence all up and down Andrew Young Int'l Blvd. That usually has a number of tourists there (Hard Rock is on there along with a Hooters) so police are usually patrolling.

For people taking MARTA, it has usually taken me about 1 hr from the Dunwoody station on game day. It's a Fri along with a ton of fans and other people heading downtown so don't cut it too close. If you don't want to change trains at Five Points, you can always get off at the Peachtree Station and it will put you right near Andrew Young Int'l Blvd and you can walk the rest of the way. Not too bad of a walk. There will be a lot of people on that route.
