Where do we go from here?

At this point, I think this team has 2 major problems that compound into all the other problems:
1. The team has no identity and each player does not know their defined role.
2. Too many players are getting minutes, and there are costly stretches of incohesion.

CKH can keep screwing with the lineups through 11/30 (2 more games). After that, we HAVE to tighten it down starting with the VT game. Here are the players I would play, and the minutes I would play them.

Powell…30
Horston…33
Jackson…33
Darby…22
Franklin…30
Key…20
Puckett…18
Hollingshead…14

Notes:
When Powell is out, Horston runs the point.
When Darby is out, Puckett is in.
Either Jackson or Horston is in the game at all times.
We need this to be a cohesive 8 man lineup. The 12 man rotation ain't working.

Darby and Puckett have one job - the corner 3 on offense.
Powell runs the offense.
Offense creates space for Horston or Jackson.
If Jackson or Horston get doubled, then Franklin/Key or Darby/Puckett are going to be unguarded.

Hollingshead and Puckett need to prove they deserve court time. Neither of them have done much in the non-cupcake games. I'm no fan of Walker, but I'd say she deserves to be there over those two at this point. They have been practically invisible this season.

I hope Pissott becomes a reliable option by SEC play. She probably has more upside than Puckett.

Im not so sure the line up of Powell and Walker together is our best . I get the idea against the press but they have not shown much more than others when it comes to going against the press. One needs to come off the bench as a 6th man going forward.

I think this game showed the team is moving in that direction. I think Kellie is still wanting to see what Marta can bring. She missed a whole season and still looks rusty. She is on the cusp of making plays but her timing is just off. Whether she can turn that around in the near term is an open question.

It looks Jordan Walker is now the @2 point guard but Horston often takes on that role in any given set (much like last year).

Franklin playing 30 minute a game on her repaired knee might be asking too much. Key needs to play better so that can manage Franklin's minutes.

I feel like Striplin might deserve more of a look in the next 2 games.

The X factor is Justine. A top 5 recruit who is three point specialist has got to get on the floor at some point.

I have no doubt we would win a lot of games with those players playing those minutes. Kellie may well decide to do exactly that after she gives everyone on the bench the opportunity to show what they can do. I'd say the players are thankful they have coaches that are patient and will give them a fair shake. Too bad fans sometimes don't. Kellie also has to coach for next year that might be her toughest year yet.


Maybe today was a sign they are learning to play through the substitutions.

There's a possbility this is by design. i.e. - throw them out there and let them sort each other out and find leaders and find their roles, and let those who don't deserve their minutes show themselves they don't deserve them so they'll be more accepting of a depth role. Notice that Pissott and Striplin and Wynn didn't get any minutes today, so she may have used this part of the season to winnow out the chaff, and began the culling today. Wouldn't be surprised to see her continue this against the easier competition to come and let it play it's way out during that period and then end up with a defined rotation and roles after that.

Just a theory.

Wynn is potentially our best defender and Striplin has had some strong minutes. Pissott is still probably overwhelmed, hope we get her some minutes soon.

Yeah, on second thought, the fact they didn't get minutes today might mean nothing. All good points. We're likely gonna need all of them before it's over.

Still not much effort from Key. Horston and Jackson did what they do best and were able to score close to the basket over shorter defenders. Franklin had some good post moves. Still no offensive flow and didn't see many set plays that looked like the players were moving with purpose, except for some of the post entry passes. Defense looked active and alert, but they still got torched for 40-something points in that half.

I didn't see the game. Was Key hurt? Only one rb in 20 minutes!

No she was not hurt she is not very aggressive and allows smaller players to block her off the boards. She also lack physicality to dominate in the paint. She also does not have good hands. She also exhibits few if any post moves. I still cannot lay all the blame on her. If analysts can see these issues, why can’t the coaching staff? It is a waste of height.
