When is it time to retire?

He was pretty bad. As mentioned, he called us Ky a few times. One time late in the game he said Vandy was losing 17-0 to Houston when the game was almost over and they were down 34-0.

Time for him to go eat green jello at 4:30

After the 17-0 update I honestly thought something may be wrong with him.

That's probably an indication that age has something to do with it.

Age doesn't cause that, memory issues do. Not all old people have that.

I do agree w/ the gist of your post, though. There's something not right w/ the dude.

And lol @ some saying they're worlds ahead of Verne & Co. That's like saying Idi Amin, as a good guy, was worlds ahead of Hitler. He was but...

He also referred to our secondary as the strength of the defense.. I almost fell out the chair.

Both had clearly enjoyed themselves at the Breeders Cup earlier that day. Palmer said Dobbs' interception was caught off a "rickashaw", and Musberger called it a critical turnover with a 52-21 score in the 4th. They were also trying to talk themselves into agreeing with that Godawful targeting call. There was clearly some bourbon flowing in the pressbox.

I was seriously concerned he was having or had had some sort of medical issue. Breeder's Cup festivities sounds more likely. Hope that's all it was.

When I heard it was "Assburger" (as I have called him for years) I said to the wife "If it isn't that Goon Verne its Dam Assburger! :banghead2:

Dude was slurring his words pretty good as well last night, time for the nursing home Brent! :neener:

Verne is so much worse.

Though which shows a greater lack of awareness-- Zack Preston or Jason Reese-Maven-- is too close to call.

People complain about Gary, but he can see the field better than 99% of analysts

We may not like his trope, but I typically love his instant replay breakdowns

I dont know why you think he can see the field better than 99% of analysts. I think he is almost as bad as Verne. The only thing he does better than Verne is he actually spends time talking about football, and even on special occasions, the game he is being paid to talk about. He is just awful

I actually think Palmer is pretty good

Yeah, I agree with you. Seems like Palmer is the only one mentioned in this thread that is actually trying to comment on the games. Occasionally Brent will get into it, which is nice (eg. "FUMBLE!!!") . The other guys just read stats handed to them for the most part, then they talk about the latest gossip or some other topic loosely related to football

Me too. Smart and fair-minded. And I still like Musberger too. The man is a legend and obviously still has passion for the game.

He made the "mistake" of getting old and then making unforgivable mistakes on air. We need young and perfect young people to broadcast. You know like replacing 152-52 with someone young. How did that work for us?

Sounds like Volnation.

My point exactly. Some of these guys know more about football, and most of them are funnier or more entertaining than these chumps. If we are going the ESPN-soap opera route anyway, I'm fine replacing them with your favorite VN poster, no problem

Well...as long as they are young and perfect.

You continue to work when you have more than enough to retire.. You call the shot on your terms

You got some fight for an old guy. :) Phil should have been let go. We handled it poorly, but Phil wasnt generating recruits. Its the circle of life, mustafa. Dont criticize what you cant understand; your sons and your daughters are beyond your command. Your old road is rapidly aging, please get out of the new one if you cant lend your hand. The times they are changing
