I used to despise listening to him because he sounded.like he was pulling against the SEC and didnt like that the Big 10 and Big 12 were getting bashed for bad teams and poor defenses and that.made it hard to listen.

Compared to Verne he sounds really sharp for an old dude.

I told my dad last night of the games I've watched him call, its almost as if he knows this is no longer prime time games and is still trying to make it sound like a big matchup. However, he.does sound different these days. Maybe he's tired? Maybe he's been told to call it differently? He's.not unbearable.

I noticed he sounded bad on the SEC Nation show early in the day. He did mess a lot of stuff up, but he was so much better than Vern that I found it refreshing.

I tend to cut announcers more slack unless there is blatant bias. I couldn't do that job. I know I would just say what happened in 5 seconds followed by dead air.

Actually, that sounds pretty good to me. I'm not a huge fan of constant yak, yak, yak... from announcers of any kind.

At halftime, I fully expected him to lead Commonwealth Stadium in his rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", a la Harry Carey.

Just wondering:
1] if he has ALWAYS been 'one of the worst', he has fooled TV exec's for over 30 years who have kept him employed
2] How do you know the 'players hate to be around him'?

In Muss's defense the players are so far away and blue and orange are very similar colors.

Honestly, I'm amazed he's been allowed to call another game since that crazed, stalker rant about AJ Mcaron's girlfriend a few years ago. Creepiest 30sec of tv I've seen in a while.
