When are we going to move on?

First and foremost I am seeking to understand, not criticize or infer negative intent. We all have the right to our opinions as well, thank goodness we live in 'Merica! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

When are we going to stop looking back and focus forward? All of the Nico threads, and some are quite amusing, feel like we can't get over the situation. Until mid-summer I was in the same boat to be honest. But now that JA is killing it and the other guy....forget his name.... (well, whatever, it will come to me) is on the struggle bus why do we keep going back to that well?

I suppose I just dislike the fact he is still living, rent free, in some of our fellow Vols heads when we CLEARLY have a team that will be exciting to watch and are probably better off the way it went down.

What am I missing?

he’s a 1970 UT graduate oh he’s got some stories to tell. He passed his UT football knowledge down to me
My great uncle was a tail gunner in ww2 and a vol alum from the early 50s . He did the same for me. I explains most of my hate for ole miss and auburn. He absolutely hated auburn above all but the knuckle-draggers in tuscaloosa. I learned that at like the age of 5 or 6. I hated auburn before I knew how to tie my shoes.

This thread is about the why of those threads, actually curious. I see what you tried to do there little buddy!
Dude.

If you want something to stay alive, talk about it. Doesn't matter whether you're talking good of it, or ill. Doesn't matter if you're trying to have a meta-conversation about why we're talking about it, or why we're talking about talking about it.

You keep it in the public consciousness by bringing it up.

So congratulations, you are one of the people you're railing against. :)

Go Vols!

Nico Imagonnaleaveya made himself look so bad that we welcome back JG and his weekly podcast. When you make VolNation forget about JG, you've REALLY screwed up.

Prediction: Nico transfers to Florida and plays for Lane Kiffin next year.

It seems like things worked out as well as we could've hoped. Nico probably played better than his backups would have last season and made a couple of really awesome throws to beat Bama, and it's looking like Joey is likely an upgrade. They both left their original teams, but from what I can tell it appears they've given 100% while playing on Rocky Top. I'm grateful to both guys for the TD throws, the TD runs and the good times. Go Nico! Go Joey! And Go Big Orange! šŸŠ
I could care less but Nico gave far from 100%, read some of the reports of him missing many voluntary things. Glad to have moved on.

Can I argue from another angle? It is a really interesting story. Even if I was not a Tennessee fan I would find it interesting. Nico got really the first big NIL deal. The whole nation is wondering how this is going to work, will it lead to loyalty to a program or create mercenaries. Nico has shown no loyalty, that it is all about the Benjamins, and it has failed him. Throw in the drama with his family and now it is just a soap opera. I think a lot of us traditionalist who do not like the way football is going see Nico as a symbol of why the new way is wrong. A lot of people want to see him fail, not just those of us who bleed orange.

I'm curious if there have been significantly more restraining orders issued on ex-husbands & ex-boyfriends in East Tennessee compared to anywhere else in the USA, considering how Vols fans have acted regarding Lane Kiffin & Nico Iamaleava. It's like there's something in the water, or maybe it's the corn in a jar, that turns us into weird exes who can't handle breakups in an emotionally intelligent manner.

No one likes their hopes dashed. Imagine discussing 2025 with Nico all year and instantly being ripped from the conversation. Being scorned by Nico opened up old wounds, and all the comments that were put out there about the offense and $$$$ feels like someone insulting your mother.........it will not end well, I can promise you that based on history. UT fans have long memories and short on forgiveness, and all the French Mustard and golf balls you can handle.

Full disclosure: I feel sorry for Nico; his family has totally ruined his future, but it doesn't mean he won't go to the NFL. This story will stick to him like pine sap.

JP I almost always like your takes but, as I have said many times in this thread, it isn't my intent to rally against it, just understand it. We do this as a fan base a lot and I was genuinely curious as to what peoples reasons were. Candidly, a couple of responses have made me think about why I don't care. That was it brother. Go Vols!

And was literally just talking NiNo up in another thread lol…
hardly talking him up, just sharing my opinion that I think his dad had more to do with this than him.

I have no idea what happened but all but I can't imagine a kid just going off the rails like that without that influence.

I don’t think some are looking at this situation for what it truly was. This wasn’t just every other player leaving for a different opportunity. I’ve seen plenty leave here and thus forum not trash them. I would say that is the majority. Most here understand pay, free market, maybe bring closer to family, better opportunity, etc.

This was much more. This was a national event covered on sports nationally and even plain old news outlets. This was the first true ā€œhold outā€ if you will of college football. I talk to many fans from other bases that still keep up with Nico and think the situation is hilarious watching his production at UCLA. Plenty of non Tennessee fans were ecstatic that we didn’t open the door for the last minute ā€œcollege free agency hold outā€. This will be covered for years to come. If Nico flops, he looks silly. If he balks out, the university looks silly. Either way there was going to be coverage. Possibly a 30 for 30 one day?

This will happen again of course. But UT was the first to go through it and handle it. This situation won’t die for a while.

Best take I have read so far, thanks my friend. I believe that the national coverage part of this was something that I underappreciated.

Ah, my apologies, then. I misunderstood your motivation.

So then, here's my theory: we need something to talk about.

It's a board in which only two things happen. Just two. People read. And people write. We can call it "talking" as a shorthand.

So there being absolutely NOTHING else to do here, we talk. And we need things to talk about. Some are utterly stoopid, like bringing up economics or politics, or religion, or stuff like that. The good stuff is related to football. Specifically Tennessee football.

And surprisingly, there aren't that many topics to discuss. About three-fourths of our roster is rarely going to get a thread devoted to them. And of the one-quarter that do, most will almost never have more than one thread running about them. Boo Carter and our quarterbacks are obvious exceptions to that rule. There are a few others. Even our coaches don't all regularly get threads. The head coach will (and the AD), so will the coordinators from time to time, and someone always wants to Fahr Willie Martinez. Or praise Rodney Garner. Or praise AND fire Glen Elarbee. Heh. There's usually a thread running about the stadium and improvements. Another going about what's the time announced for the upcoming game. Another for what uniform changes are coming. And what uniform are we wearing this weekend. There are the obligatory (and fun) countdown threads, the stat-tracking thread or two, the Night Before Off-Topic and Game Day Threads, the practice reports during spring and fall camp, the Look-Alike thread...and that pretty much wraps it up. I'm forgetting a few, I know. My apologies.

That sounds like a lot. It's not. Not on a forum where the front page has 25 threads, with three or four more pages of 25 behind them, sometimes all 100-125 threads still being read and responded to with some regularity.

This is a beast. And it has to be fed.

So a former QB is gonna stay alive here for a while. A while.

That's my theory, anyway.

Go Vols!
