Not that I expect to ever be put into that situation, but I'm not firing a warning shot.I'm not saying it wasn't a successful ploy to ditch the rifle and haul off on the snowmobile but not sure on the "brave" part. I'd have thought that would be a description better suited to a guy that fired the warning shot and then dropped the bear when it charged. (unless the rifle jammed)
I smell what you're cooking but I'm not sure I'd just waste a bear for looking at me funny. (and again, there can be some serious legal ramifications) I'm working from the idea of a "warning shot" trying to drive off a bear...not a matter of defense. Once the bear decides "game on" you get to respond in kind.I'll take my chances, I'm not warning something that can eat me![]()
There's an argument to be made for sure. "Remotely close" is a bit up for grabs. I can say that if said shooting is discovered and not sufficiently warranted as self-defense in AK it's like $100K and up to a year in prison. If it's a genuine threat you should be able to make the justification...just don't get carried away with assuming you'll be automatically allowed to make that claim. (actually that's true in most any self-defense shooting, people included)If you're anywhere remotely close to a polar bear that isn't in a cage in a zoo, then you're in imminent danger.
When i encounter a polar bear in Phoenix, I think the world will have bigger concerns than punishing the guy that killed the polar bear. There's an argument to be made for sure.
