WhatifSports.com prediction through week 3

I am sure some of you are aware of What if Sports. They simulate every college game 10,000 times and take the composite victories and scores and average them out. It has been pretty accurate when I have checked it in the past. I thought you may be interested to see where they have the Vols after three weeks

Week 1
TN 45 WKU 4 TN wins 95% of the time

Week 2
TN 25 UCLA 9 TN wins 90.7% of the time

Week 3...
TN 7 FL 49 FL wins 95% of the time

Any thoughts on these scores?
Never heard of them. That's not your site is it?

Florida probably wins but it will be closer than people think.
Remember last year we fumbled inside the five, threw a pick inside the five and gave up a TD punt return. Otherwise we held the Florida offense in check. I wager none of those things happen to us on offense this year.

Our Defense won't let UF hang 49 on us. They got 30 last year and 2 scores were off of SP play or the result there of. If we can move the ball 30-40 yards we can atleast get some FG's this year.

Pretty close to my predicted score---UT 49--WK-6
If you do play the spreads, throw down on the Vols-30 in this one. Easy win.

i posted this in another thread, but it bears repeating here.....

jonathan crompton has never completed 50% of his passes in a road game while at tennessee. (48 of 107 career, which is 44.8%)

he has never started a game at florida or at alabama. the toughest road venue he has ever seen was at auburn, which was the worst game of his career and was embarrassing on a level that i can not describe.

in addition, tennessee has averaged 47 yards rushing a game in the last 4 meetings with florida.

there is no way crompton gets the majority of playing time against florida without the game getting ugly in florida's favor.

i also, frankly, think there will be problems with the tennessee defense that most here are not putting much stock in.

but, right up the gut, you have a walk on middle linebacker and a defensive tackle with no knees.

not good.

Well at worst they are as bad as they were last year so sounds like another under 30 point loss doesnt it?

12 games

Florida game is a loss...UF has to much talent and the best QB in college

We have 11 games we can win this season.

TN will have 2 off weeks this season due to players being hurt, focus, etc...so there are 2 more losses.

as of now, I have UT going 9-3...But there is a 4 to 5 game margin of error. That margin is QB play. I really think if the coaching staff can coach JC to NOT lose games and just be a steady player, we have a really good shot at winning 9 games. I doubt anyone would disagree with me when I say JC will not win any games for us, but if he plays smart and limits mistakes, the vols will have a solid season.

I agree with alot of what you have said, but the 06' game he started in Arkansas was his worst start ever...I know the Hogs were a good team that year (SEC Champ Game Loss to Gators) But he was TERRIBLE that night...I was at the game and it was over in the 1st quarter. Ever since that night, I have NOT been a JC fan.

So jopr,
Would you rather JC actually make plays, but still have things like picks fumbled snaps etc, or do you want him to have no mistakes, but not make any plays?

Good question,

I am not saying make no mistakes, but make no plays at the same time. What I am saying is control the game. be aware of what is going on and FOCUS. It will be interesting to see how he plays the 1st 2 games. If the coaching is as good as advertised, he will play within his limits. Remember, he was a top 5 QB coming out of HS...so he does have some talent and he can play the position

At least you aren't pretending here unlike on GVX.

I don't think Florida's offense, when having to drive 70+ yards most of the time could be reasonably expected to score more than 30 or so. And I believe that even there, I'm likely giving them too much credit based upon two really awful quarters.

IF we are able to run the ball effectively, it will be a ballgame.

You're right.. But I think UF can score 49 on the UT "defense"...

A question for you? You've done a lot of talking about how Fla. will win without a doubt and how Tn has no hope at all but will be clobbered; should the unthinkable happen and the Vols pull off the upset of the century, will you be back on this board on Monday following the game?????? Just wondering if you will disappear along with probably all of the Gator interlopers on this board......If your answer is "yes", I'll be searching for your response!!!!!!

Why do you think UT will be able to run the ball effectively? Your best RB is a freshman who has never played. Your O line is by no means dominant, and you have not had success running against us in the recent past. Our defense should be even better and we had the 15th best run defense while Tennessee's rush offense was 88th. Also how do you know your special teams will be better? Brandon James could score or at least have a couple good returns again. Also we are running a lot of no huddle offense in 2 a days so we could have even more offensive possessions than last year.

rsg87gator, I have been pretty consistently honest about this year's Vols... I have absolutely no idea how good they will be. That said, the new staff is doing a lot of very, very good things beginning with an emphasis on running the ball. They have a guy with NFL experience running special teams vs Fulmer last year....

OTOH, it is my sincere wish for all Gator fans to be dismissive of UT this year just like you're being. I despise UF with a blood red passion. If you all win as expected then the joy will be muted by your high expectations. If you don't then you will be even more disappointed.... Did I say I despised UF and their pompous condescending fans?

If you go back and read my responses I've said several times that UT has a chance. Is it a big chance? I don't think so because UT is running a new system and UF will basically return everyone short of Harvin and Murphy. I don't think the UT defense will improve much over what it was last year. Chavis wasn't the problem...

The "upset of the century" occurred a few years ago when App State beat Michigan. One SEC team beating another is not "upset of the century" material.

I'll be back here either way. Why wouldn't I be?

Chavis was a much bigger problem than you seem to think and especially against the better OC's/playcallers. He was/is a GREAT LB coach, a decent game week coach, and a horrible gameday coach.

LSU may have the talent to carry him and the current UT staff may not be as good as their credentials... but Fulmer is gone in part because he allowed gameday and recruiting mediocrity out of Chavis because of personal loyalty.

Tennessee's problems against ranked teams have always been due to mistakes. Keep the mistakes to a minimum and Tennessee can play with almost anyone. However, once we start turning the ball over and give up big plays the wheels fall off and we rarely recover. That's all about preparation and attitude. Something I hope the new coaching staff can correct.

"The team with the fewest mistakes wins."

I'll take no mistakes and no big plays from Crompton any game. You did see him play last year, no?

Just hand off the ball, son. Hand off the ball.

That won't work. 8 in the box and you're getting stuffed everytime. Too many good dlines in the SEC.
