Well, when we talk about nfl and nba guys being in gangs, I'm a little skeptical. Pro athletes are 1) wealthy and 2) busy--practices, meetings, travel, etc. College players are very busy too. So pro guys aren't hanging on the streets--unless you mean cruising around in their $100,000 cars. And most are not stupid enough to commit crimes and jeopardize their careers. I can certainly see some athletes--pro or college--having a loose association with outsiders/hangers-on who might be in gangs, and I can see the general appeal of gangs to black players; I mean, young black males have this dumb affinity for guns and gangsta behavior--look at the Burress shooting himself in a bar. A lot depends on how you define being a "gang member." Gang or no gang, drugs or no drugs, far too many young black men do stupid things.
