Yea, the dreaded "Pit Bull Gang"

:lolabove: oh yes I heard about that on dateline!...to join you have to become an nfl star, get paid millions and have an entourage which you fund in a dog fighting ring! They are taking over the United States!

Maybe I need to update my "gang knowledge", but why would a rising star football player have any interest in being part of a gang? But who knows, you could very well be right.

Check out where Nuke came from. Pahokee is in a poverty stricken area in South Florida. Quite possible its just a part of his mentality. Doesn't excuse what he did. But doesn't surprise me.

I haven't seen much in him so far as a player or a person, so it doesn't break my heart to see him go. I'm really disappointed in JJ.

There was something not too long ago about Nuke being a blood or a crip or one of those 2. That was one of the first things I thought of. The OP has a very good point.

Nuke has been showing his thug side since being here. I don't know how Janzen got involved.

What has he done before this? Being homesick doesn't qualify as "showing his thug side."

Of course we won't know. And I am not for sure...but as soon as I heard about this and put the story together it sounds like a lot of what we get here. Really sucks for them. You have to wonder what goes through their heads sometimes.

I work with kids who are involved in gangs and who have come through the system. I am about 99.99% sure this is gang related. That may sound far-fetched to some of you who are not familiar with how it works, but I am willing to bet my house on it. It was probably an initiation into a gang. I would not be surprised if a "petty crime" was the way in and that the driver of the car (female) was one of the gang's ladies. It happens all the time and this screams gang related.

This is so sad...way beyond football. These kids pretty much just ruined their lives for street cred.
I live in Charlotte, NC and recently what you are speculating has been an issue here. Sadly enough, you may be onto something.

I am on the gang task force at my county jail where I work, there are more gang members in sports than you can shake a stick at. The NFL is full of them and so is the NBA. I have seen Bloods and Crips on the field throwing their signs before. They use their position to recruit new members. It's sad but it's true....

Gang initiation rite seems more plausible as a motiviation for this stupid act than anything else I've heard or can think of. Nuke and Edwards come from backgrounds where gang activity would be previlent.

It's a total different universe than I have ever lived in.

I work w/ plenty of gang members and I hafta say that I'm not convinced it's gang related. These dudes got away from where they grew up and are on the path towards big money careers. Especially JJ. I can't see a dude at that stage of his life trying to get into a gang. Now could they have previously been in gangs? sure. And are there plenty of famous people who are in gangs that we don't know about? yes. But I just don't see how this situatuion plays out as being a gang thing.

Well, when we talk about nfl and nba guys being in gangs, I'm a little skeptical. Pro athletes are 1) wealthy and 2) busy--practices, meetings, travel, etc. College players are very busy too. So pro guys aren't hanging on the streets--unless you mean cruising around in their $100,000 cars. And most are not stupid enough to commit crimes and jeopardize their careers. I can certainly see some athletes--pro or college--having a loose association with outsiders/hangers-on who might be in gangs, and I can see the general appeal of gangs to black players; I mean, young black males have this dumb affinity for guns and gangsta behavior--look at the Burress shooting himself in a bar. A lot depends on how you define being a "gang member." Gang or no gang, drugs or no drugs, far too many young black men do stupid things.

aaronvol, your hypothesis is hilarious and absurd. even funnier, you claim to be knowledgeable of gang intricacies.
gangs dont use pellet guns. you dont join a gang when your 18 and in college, the time has passed. if nuke made it through pahokee without joining, he sure as hell isnt gonna do it now in ktown.
and the "gang lady" driver is farrrrr from such. a graduate from a prestigious magnet school, no history of trouble, real nice girl, just played stupid last night like the rest of them.

Goober615, there were two women in Nashville who both had office desk jobs, no record, and were both arrested for gang activity under the RICO law.

if it were a "gang initiation" he would have had to do it alone, unless ofcourse all are joining the same crew, but not likely, considering there all from different areas, + don't know too many gangsters ridin around with pellet guns in a prius
