I wonder if the NCAA stripping their NC completely undoes all the USC fan's excitement from 5 years ago.
What do you guys think. Is a NC NOW worth being on a 2-year probation 5 years down the road?
Well SGM would be posting how Land & CO are awesome and how we're lucky to have them at the lowly UT while the rest of us (actually standing and not on our knee caps) would be pretty nervous and wondering what else has happened under him so far that we don't know yet.
I love how nothing was tied back to Kiffin/Orgeron in 4 years of investigation, yet we were automatically going to end up on probation according to some of y'all. He bent the rules like crazy and probably annoyed the crap out of our compliance department, but that doesn't really equate.
No kidding, I'm tired of hearing people connect those two. For all it's worth, Lane and Ed went right back there knowing what the NCAA was about to do, Pete Carroll is the one who is gone. You connect the dots.
this line of comments is absurd. While those two may not have been named expressly in the report, they were there during the relevant time period. In fact, the kiffin sheep on vol nation are all so quick to bleat about how the great one recruted reggie bush. Where is the bleating about that involvement now? To say they weren't involved is to conveniently overlook the facts of the situation. They at least knew what was going on.
Furthermore, the ncaa noted that it was the entire culture at usc that was corrupt. And, what was the great one trying to install here at ut? To transition it into usc east. We have now seen what that means and my answer is "no thanks, i'm not buying." we should all be thanking our lucky stars that rag tag bunch of mercenaries is long gone.

Ok seriously, some people on here really need to get their heads out of the sand. There is no way that the two main guys beside Sark who are running the team with Pete had no idea or didn't have a hand in anything. Coach O was the head RC, for God's sake. You guys go find one example where the CEO of a company was looting the place and the VP's weren't there right with em. Enron? Tyco? Adelphia? Worldcom? Peregrine? Any? Any at all? They don't send the Ceo to jail by himself, the whole staff gets carted off.

If you stop and think about it...Lloyd Lake made a phone call to McNair at 1:34 AM on 1/8/06 in an attempt to persuade McNair to reach out to Bush in an effort to have him reach some kind of understanding with the "active sports marketing partnership" of which Bush was the anchor [future contributions] that had been supplying Bush and his family with a car, house, plane tickets, hotels, money, furniture, appliances, etc. Lake knew that something was up since Bush and his family had stopped asking for money, etc. in late Nov/early Dec. and surmised that someone else was providing Bush, his family, and associates with benefits. Bush, in fact, was now getting money, plane tickets for him and his friends, car repairs, hotels for him and his friends, etc. from people associated with the sports marketing group that he had interned with. PC had helped set up the internship arrangement for 3 USC athletes [the compliance department had mass failings in approving this arrangement since the internships were specifically available only to athletes and not the general school population...big no-no].
Lake stated that he had wanted to keep this quiet but was not willing to be left holding the bag for all the expenses he and his partner had contributed toward the partnership. By the way, the NFL Players Association evaluated the circumstances of the dealings with Bush arrangement and determined that it was an active partnership extending back to 2004. Bush and his family were the anchor while the other people involved were the money people.
The report noted that the next day that McNair called Bush in a 13 min conversation which was the third longest conversation out of all the cell phone calls they had ever had. McNair had repeatedly denied knowing, meeting, or conversing with Lake at parties, restaurants, etc. Unfortunately for him, the committee had photos, telephone records, other documents, etc that disproved these claims.
McNairs immediate boss at the time was none other than Kiffin himself. Does anyone think that McNair did not at least discuss what must have been a disconcerting late-night phone conversation from Lake with Kiffin who he directly reported to? Admittedly this is an inference and supposition. The committee was not willing to include this in its report without direct evidence.
There are numerous places in the report that you can read between the lines and understand the severity of the lack of institutional control in football, basketball, and tennis with tacit agreement from the coaching and compliance staff that major rules violations were taking place.
I know this kind of detail does not interest everybody but there are a few that have not had time to review the reports that would like to read something like this.
