To KEEP his job? 7 wins I think, though he may get another year or two at six... I think 3 years is the narrowest time frame to do the job, probably more like 5.

In 20012 I think 9 wins is unlikely, 10 or more a real stretch and a BCS bowl, fagettaboutit!

Not that I wouldn't be ecstatic to be proven wrong!!! (In an upwardly mobile kind of way).

9 wins with a 6-2 record in SEC would be nice. As long as we go to and win a January bowl (maybe Capital One or Cotton) I'd be satisfied.

Over .500 in the conference and 0 non-con loses. Should be a 8-9 win season and really on the upward swing with drillings of KY and Vandy at the end of year with solid Bowl appearance. Think this is a logical expectation...

and we are the least penalized team in the SEC.

With that said, recruiting, offensive and defensive production, and carrying on the fight for 60 minutes has been lack luster.

We are dang near last in every major category in the SEC. If Derek Dooley cannot improve by the end 2012 season then we might be in a little bit of a pickle. Until then, I say we sit back, relax, and enjoy the other college football teams around the country. The expectation level for Tennessee football in my household has dropped to practically nothing.

There are other variables besides record. A half-full Neyland (or half-empty, depending on your perspective) and a serious decline in booster bucks and donor dollars will shorten CDD's stay. The dropoff will start with a 4-8 season. Anything less than 5-7 will close wallets. Assuming a 5-7 finish this year, I think 7-8 wins with solid recruiting and tangible improvement will be considered respectable for the remainder of Dooley's contract. Putting the Vols back in the hunt in the SECe will give Dooley the wiggle room he needs.

8 wins. But if he really wants to get an extension and prove he's up to the job, he's got to have a significant "Back on the Map" win. Beating Florida or Alabama at home is must if that season is really going to be considered successful.

Doesn't really matter. The world is going to come to an end on December 21 2012. At least that's what my inside information guy says. I can't tell you his name but he is very reliable. :superman:

And I think a big factor in whether that will be achievable is the D-line class from this year. We have got to get defensive tackles that can be disruptive against elite O-lines. Ideally it would have been last year, but it's got to be this year if we want to win in 2012 so they have a year to develop.

So here's praying that Wright, Couch and Johnson sign on and Carson and Saulsberry can play.

Agreed. I think special teams play, the offensive line improvements, and the running of Poole, could all be considered successful. What we really need in a bad way is for more success to happen against USC this weekend. A working chemistry between one, or both of our QBs, and their receivers would be on my wish list. It would be a toss up between that, and our D-line getting consistent pressure on Garcia, coming away with 3-4 sacks, for first on my wish list for this weekend. No matter how good Lattimore runs, if we can shut down Garcia, IMO we will be in the game and still have a shot at winning.

2011: 7 - 8 wins
2012: 8 - 9 wins, and not getting blown out by any team on the schedule

Agreed. The key to this w/e is shutting down Garcia. He gets sacked, Lattimore and Jeffery don't get the ball. He gets rattled, he causes TOs. Spurrier gets disgusted and sends in Shaw, then we can capitalize on his inexperience. If the Vols beat SC, I think that will give them the confidence to win out. That would give Dooley the time he needs to start rebuilding for real. If he doesn't make a big move soon, the natives will get more than restless. The Vols have to play SC well.

I also think Dooley and company need to put it ALL ON THE LINE EARLY. I think this team has been coached to keep games close for so long, that not one player on this team has been coached to go out and win games (especially the Jrs and Srs) (they've been coached not to make mistakes). Playing for a tie or a close game going into the half won't be a victory this weekend, it will be more of the same kind of thinking that got us here in the first place IMO. To overcome a year's worth of poor second half play, and to come back to win in the second half, would together be a real stretch for this team to accomplish in 1 week's time. Playing better second half football, by holding onto a lead, I think is more realistic IMO.

9-3 Would be fine, finish 10-3 after a successful bowl. That'd be nice. That's my minimium though. I want a NC, 14-0.

If the staff is still in place and attrition has slowed to a manageable pace then 10 wins is expected, but 9 would be acceptable.

We need to recruit better players than what we are getting if we want to be in Atlanta in December of 2012.

Sadly, I don't see us being much better until around 2014, or after. That being said, as long as we can compete, and have a couple upset wins against our rivals, he'll have adequate time to straighten things out. I say we are gonna hear ALOT more in years to come about lack of depth. With the number of seniors that will be graduating this year an dthe number of recruits we can sign, we'll only have about 8-10 more players then, then we do now. And take a look at the JR this year that'll be leaving end of 2011. CDD says we only have something like 56 player on the team, well for the 2012 season, I bet we'll only have 65-70. These numbers aren't taking into consideration players leaving, or disciiplinary action. So we may have more exp, and they may be DD players, but next year based on what we've seen this year. 2011 record-- 5-7. 2012 record 6-6. As much as I hate to say it, I really believe we are now a .600 team for the next DECADE!!!! I hate you mike hamilton!!!!!!

Yep, starting strong and playing hard to the end is critical. Hopefully, the lessons learned from Alabama and Oregon will motivate them. They'll need to make big plays early, because it'll be even harder when they're gassed. I'm not sure it will be as easy to rattle Garcia as it has been in previous games, however. They'll need to be really fired up!

Objectively, an overall winning record including a winning record in conference play would be job well done for Dooley. So five conference wins and three non con wins would set the bar at eight. If he also has a bowl win buy 2012... give the man an extension.
