What Vols fans think of Clay Travis.

For some reason, a lot of folks don't seem to like him. And his career continues to take off. of what the problem is with him.

There's no way he's a UT fan. Brent yes, Clay hell no. He's a Vandy Law School grad for crying out loud. Takes shots at UT even when no opportunity exist. I don't care how many pics he posts of himself in Neyland. Big time James Franklin loving Vandy homer.

Clay is a UT fan. He takes shots at UT because it gets people talking about him. Hence this thread even existing.

He also gives props to James Franklin constantly because he knows it riles UT fans up.

I like Clay

Me too. During the past two football seasons when everyone was relentlessly slurping Dooley, he was one of the few people who recognized him for the imbecile that he was and called a spade a spade. That alone caused a lot of people to form a negative opinion of him, and it's only grown since. He's a little over the top with his affection for James Franklin, but it's hard to deny that what he's done at Vandy is impressive.

He's also a huge UT fan. Don't let his on the air schtick fool you. He and Brent on 3HL are both UT fans. Clay even tweeted a picture of himself on the edge of his seat during the end of the UGA game.

Agreed. Chad Withrow is a big UT fan as well

He claimed he was a Vol fan, but then went to see Vandy vs Army instead of watching Tennessee - Alabama. That told me right there that he was a fake.

I like that he doesn't bow down to UT. So many fans want people to drink the kool aid. He doesn't. That's good enough for me.

He was dead on about Dooley when many were still sucking on everything Dooley said.

IMO, He was also right about UT needing to back the dump truck full of cash to a big time head coach.. Although Tennessee settled for CBJ. That may still work out in our favor.

He obviously moves the needle, one way or the other.

His radio show remains one of my deciding factors in moving back to Knoxville from Middle Tennessee a couple years back.

I couldn't continue residing in a populace that would support that radio show. I simply no longer belonged in my hometown.

Sad really. Clay is an imbecile of the highest order. He and Wes Rucker could have offspring that would threaten eternal dominance of utter stupidity

Not a fan. It's more his condescending, "I'm the smartest guy in the room", everybody else is stupid, hyperbole to the max style that is irritating. Still don't believe he's a Vol fan....doesn't compute.

A lot of Vols fans I know don't like him. I guess because he doesn't drink the Kool aid and calls things the way he see's them. It gets people fired up!

You guys are fellow Vandy homers. If UT fans don't like him it's simple...he bashes the hell out of UT at every single opportunity while hugging Franklin's nutsack 24/7.

Clay disappoints me. I really don't know what point he's trying to prove with his snarky, condescending, articles and tweets although many of them are hilarious (see top 10 dumbest fan bases). He wrote a wonderful book that I read last year, "On Rocky Top", which really made him he seem like a UT fan. I think that he, like me and many others, was a big time Fulmer supporter who lost a lot of faith, trust, and confidence in the program following Fulmer's firing. I think he will start openly supporting Tennessee once we start winning again.

Is he a Knoxville based tv or radio sports guy or something? I travel all over the south and up east a lot and catch sports talk in just about every market. Atlanta, Miami, New Orleans, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Charlotte, Louisville, DC area, St. Louis, and up the east coast. All over. I've never heard of him. Is he worth checking out? A lot of you all are basically calling him a finbaum pretender. So all he talks about is bamer and auburn football?

In other words.........a bandwagon fan.

To base your decision to move to another city on a local sports talk radio station, even in part, only further proves my points against you since the Gruden debacle.

Like it or not, Clay is excellent at what he does. Outkickthecoverage.com is growing at an exponential rate, and gets more views than even ESPN on some days! He will soon become nationally syndicated (within 5 years, especially with the continued rise of the SEC). He is frequently on the DP show, a well respected broadcast that I doubt would have an 'imbecile of the highest order' on their show. In addition, he is a graduate of Vanderbilt Law School, which is, whether you would like to admit it or not, a top 20 law program. To call this guy an 'imbecile' only shows that you are an imbecile.

Clay is not the joke buddy, you are.

Long live Gruden, btw. :hi:

"On Rocky Top" was a superbly written book. I feel much the same as you here. +1

Hating him is popular, so most do it because it's easy and is frankly how he makes $$$. I like clay, he is entertaining, and his book following the 2007 team is really good.

Look, Clay is what he is. He's an admitted and unashamed media guy. He'll say or write whatever he thinks will make people tune in to his show or read OKTC. He's trying hard to expand his own brand on a national scale, and for that reason, he takes shots at everyone and doesn't claim allegiance to anyone but Clay Travis. It comes with the territory.

For what it's worth, I think he's pretty funny, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape if he says something bad about Tennessee, considering he says bad things about everybody. He's very anti-NCAA, which I definitely agree with, and pro-Bruce Pearl, which I sort of agree with.

It was a joke, sattire, overstatement for the sake of humor.

I've done my pennance since the Gruden fiasco. No matter what the truth is about that issue I'm damaged goods to some here because of it. I'm certainly glad it concerns nothing more important than football.

Back to lurking.
