What Traditions will Kiffin keep?

he can do what ever he likes as long as he wins ball games. just my opinion.

If he plans on doing away with any UT traditions, he might want to look up Ray Perkins and how he ran Alabama after Bear died. He succeeded in alienating everybody within a few years because he wanted to act like he was more important than Alabama's tradition.

We're looking for a fresh approach in between the white lines. But Tennessee football is bigger than any coach. It will be here long after Lane Kiffin either wins a national championship and returns to the NFL in triumph, or has a .550 winning percentage in four years and gets run out of town on a rail. He'd do well to respect the traditions.

Agreed

Saban ended that Cigar Smoking after beating Tennessee tradition. They seem to be taking to it well.

OK, I tried to let it go with a one word, three letter response, but I can't leave it at that.

When I was 5 years old (42 years ago) and my Dad was carrying me into Neyland Stadium on his shoulders- and 30 something years later when I was doing the same with my five year old (now a freshman at UT), and even now, taking my seven year old in for games, it was not then, and is not now, all about winning ball games.

If that's all it is for you, you are missing out on something.

I dont think he will change tradition as far as History, except the beating down of Florida, Bama, and those stinking Dawgs!! Those losing traditions are what we have to really get rid of.

I have respect for Fulmer and the entire coaching staff, but the more change -- the better.

We needed this, regardless of how emotional it has been. You're not truly a TN fan if you weren't moved by yesterday's exit for coach Fulmer.

I realize we've had a terrible season, and frankly a terrible decade, but i don't care -- he's a really good guy and a TN guy through and through.

------

That being said, I really feel like we needed this change. TN's coaches were subconsciously getting too comfortable, and changing things up is going to help our program.

Our current players are obviously the casualties in this whole thing, but again -- they're not bigger than the program.

Getting rid of Bob Kesling would be a good start to a new tradition. Bring back John & Bill. John Ward looked like he could call another season on the Phil show.

While I don't think Bob is John Ward, he's better than most give him credit for. If John Ward wasn't his predecessor, we wouldn't give him such a hard time. He does struggle to paint a colorful picture sometimes but gets it right most of the times.Anyway, there aren't many John Wards out there. I listened to Eli Gold yesterday and quickly realized that we are blessed to have Kessling. Gold tried to describe one of the runs by Coffee and it took him 10 seconds to get out 3 adjectives to colorfully describe the run. I thought I was going to climb through the radio and slap the words right out of his mouth. Then, I heard the 2nd worst drunk of Bama history, behind the Bear, Kenny Stabler, and I wanted to puke. His voice makes me throw up in my mouth. Talk about redneck country bumpkin accents, he's the worst.

My oldest brother, 13 years my elder, absolutely hates the "woooo." Old school, I guess, but it is starting to bug me as well.

He has alot more to be concerned of then these traditions you guys speak of losing. The Vol Walk, Neylands Maxims, Carrying your small child on your shoulders to a game is a tradition? wake up people he is not concerned about that trivial BS. His concern is bringing us back the tradition of being an SEC and National power. I could care less about the before mentioned "traditions" I want him to restore our once historic program that Fulmer has dragged thru the depths of mediocrity the past 10 years.

I think it'd be cool to do like an orange square checkerboard helmet reward system. Like what Richt has with the dog bones at UGA, and the buckeyes at OSU, and all those other ones.

Just tiny little orange squares or something, haha. Hell, idk.

I'm not a fan of that. It enhances the ego of player with egos that are already too big. We should play as a team, not as a group of individuals. Everyone contributes to the team.

While I don't think Bob is John Ward, he's better than most give him credit for. . . .

When Kesling took over, I told my Dad "he's no John Ward." My Dad recalled saying many years before, when Ward was starting out, "He's no George Mooney."

This has helped give me some perspective.
