What record will we have in 2026?

I’m wondering if our big recruiting finish shows we are willing to spend more or if it singles the complete opposite. That we are doubling down on our commitment to building through high school recruiting.

We will know in a few weeks
The best teams do both HS and Portal well. We need to do both well this year or next year may be a year of growing pains, gapping out on experienced AND talented QB and quality DBs.

Won’t really know until after fall camp. There is always a major injury or two, some sort of drama in the offseason out of nowhere, and need to see who leaves and who we replace them with, coaches and players.

7 win type of regular season. 8 at best. And no I’m not happy with it. I caveat that for all the pumpers that come back next year after another shat season and say “ WeLl whAT DiD YoU PRedicT?

I’ll be told this was always going to be a “bridge year”.

Because of our coaching staff. Expectations could obviously change with some great portal pickups and upgrading a few Assistants. Youth was NOT our issue this year. Bad tackling, players on defense consistently out of position and that includes the veteran players, zero in game adjustments, some bad playcalling and undisciplined, stupid penalties. And throw in some turnovers at really bad times.
The team went from being one of the oldest who made the playoffs to being one of the youngest and struggled to get 8 wins. Instead of getting all this experience back and improving, the OP is suggesting they might not even make a bowl.

Kind of need to see the shakeup that every roster will go through to have any idea. Way, way, way too early to even consider any record...

Indiana brought in 23 new players for their 2025 roster and one is in contention for the Heisman. This lead to them winning the Big 10 and being # 1 going into the college football playoffs. Tennesse could possibly do something similar and impact 2026.

Hold your conversation until next May or June.. :)
Hahaha, keep dreaming. Our coaching staff is NOWHERE on the same level as Cignetti and IU's coaching staff.

This is one of those questions where you have to wait and see who we get in the transfer portal.

My answer could easily shift one to two games depending on what we do there or don't do there.

Home: Furman, Kennesaw St, Alabumas. Auburn, KY. LSWho, Texas. Away: Georgia Tech, USC east, Texas A&M, Vandy.
What does everyone think? Maybe 7 & 5? 6 & 6? 5 & 7?
Honestly - way too early to have a true pulse.

The negatives - We've played a pretty cake schedule the last two years. You walk into 2026 with some reservations about what this team would look like against this schedule.
The positives - Auburn and LSU in Year 1 of a coaching change. A lot of turnover at Vandy and GTech.

Assuming we can land a good QB and defense takes a step forward, I'll pencil in 9-3.

With the roster that we know of right now, I'll say 10-2 maybe 9-3. That could change based on what our roster looks like compared to that of our opponents, though.
I agree with this. Bama and Georgia and maybe A&M losses. But who knows, they could win those too.

Best Case Scenario: 7-5

Worst Case Scenario: 5-7

Because I see, best case scenario, we are going to beat Furman, Kennesaw State, and Kentucky. We should beat Auburn. South Carolina, Arkansas, and LSU. Georgia Tech is going to be very difficult in Atlanta. And I don't see us beating either of the Texas schools, Alabama, or Vandy in Nashville.

Yes Boys & Girls, you can be the first on your street to own the record people throughout the SEC dream about, and that is the UT Players singing their All Time Greatest Hit "Wait Till Next Year"!!

I think 2026 is the year the Volunteers return to Atlanta after a nearly two-decade absence. Whether 11-1 or 10-2 gets us there, we'll have to wait and see. To get 11-1, a couple of games (looking at you Bama, UTjr and A&M) would have to have the ball bounce our way.

And after Atlanta (hopefully with trophy in hand), we head for the playoffs for the second time in three years. And this time, we're hosting a game in Neyland (if we don't get a bye altogether).

Go Vols!

With all due respect to the OP, we have no idea about who will be on the roster or what our coaching staff looks like. Everyone is pointing to our schedule, which is full of big brands, but there are a ton of questions about most of the teams we’re playing . We potentially return a lot of skill guys and an experienced Offensive Line, that’s a good start.

Strength of schedule appears to be much better than this year's cupcake-fest. I like the tougher schedule for 2026. There were articles after this season asking why we remained in the Top 25 when we didn't beat a team with a winning record. That's a legitimate argument. IF we have improved our offensive/defensive lines for 2026 the sky's the limit.
