Well, it's clear to me you have a limited understanding, and that's putting it mildly. You will be the same guy whining like a little girl when something happens and we are forced to put a backup in in a crucial game with zero real game experience and they play like trash. How in your infinite wisdom and I use that term loosely do you expect them to get real game experience to be ready if the time comes? Do you cry and pout when another teams beats us badly? It's our job to stop them period, each team will do what they believe necessary to prepare their team for the season. You act like you have a superior knowledge to everyone here but your thought process surely doesn't provide evidence of it.

I’m not pearl clutching. I don’t care that we run up the score. But when someone says we aren’t running up the score, that’s a blatant lie.

Again, I don’t care that we run up the score. It’s the lying about it that prompted me to comment. The only thing I don’t like about running up the score is that Heupel loses his balls in tight moments, so going balls to the wall when it doesn’t matter seems a little odd, but in general I’d like to see us score 100 one day.

The claim that we weren't continuing to try to score is untrue as evidenced by the pass to the end zone on our penultimate play.

The claim that we were trying to run up the score is also untrue as evidenced by the fact that our starters spent the bulk of the second half on the bench.

Someone go back and check, but I believe Dilfer apologized to CJH about the stomping incident at midfield after the game. I’m sure he was embarrassed about that. His roster is still full of castoffs from better programs.

For everyone insisting that was "running up the score" I think that last drive had more to do with "leave my kicker alone so you don't get one in the ear"

He was gonna give Max a chance to score the last point on them

You obviously never played ball. You cannot tell the 2nd and 3rd and 4th stringers to go out and lay down after they spent all spring in the heat and all fall camp in the heat practicing. They earned playing time, not I feel sorry for the other team time. Spurrier said it best, it’s not my job to stop them it’s yours!

You can definitely call run plays and let the clock run at the end of a blowout. That happens hundreds of times every year.

Again, I do not care that we run up the score. Doesn’t bother me at all. But to deny that we are running up the score is just a lie.

Not early in the season it doesn't, not with coaches who have a brain.

Every game snap is super valuable. Every single one. Including trash time. Because your 2nd and 3rd string need that experience. They need to run as much of the play book as you have time to put them through. Pass plays, runs, RPOs, screens, that one option play on page 33 of the play book, everything. As many times as possible.

Because as good as practice reps are, game atmosphere and truly hostile opponent makes trash time waaaaaay better still.

Now, that may not be as true (still true, but just not as important) for a team whose main goal is to get to 6 wins and bowl eligibility. That may not be as true for the program where participation is the main objective.

But the teams chasing championships, hell yeah, it's big.

So for THOSE kinds of teams, teams like ours, it's not running up the score. It's running the playbook to broaden experience and improve depth in the roster. Period.

Scoring does not always == running up the score.

Go Vols!
