Ask a VT fan about Beamer's record before Vick, dog fighting, and how many NCs they have and you'll see who they truly are. I've gotten lots of hell in Va for wearing Tn gear and they're all the same. Vt fans hate on Tn because they know they need to beat SEC teams to be on top and they lost their sh-- when Mizzori joined the SEC. Vt fans are kind of like Miami fans, they don't want to put their money out there for the program but they want to be one of the big boys and be mentioned in the title hunt and believe getting into the Sec is the way to do it.

It's actually drivel. You done malapropped yo'self. I guess people in their simplicity assume its derived from a baby drooling. It's not. Kinda like geniuses who say cadillac converter rather than catalytic.

But then, you have to know what a catalyst is. Or at least it helps.

Don't want those "loser" GT grads knocking you off your high horse so easily, so I lent a stable hand. So to speak.

It's hard being an all-time top program. People are intimidated by it and they have taken more shots at us since we were a sleeping giant who was down for a decade. Look out though! We're coming back.

I mentioned earlier Coach Warren had been at UNC the last two years they beat GT. I had forgot about his 11 year stint at Air Force that runs the same offense. Knows it well from offense and defense.

Wow.thanks for this. Warren is priceless with this knowledge for this game then. UsAFA have used that offense as well or better than anyone in the country to take a bunch of 250lb linemen and mediocre athletes and go to bowl games more years than not on the Fisher Deberry? Years.

The fact that he knows all the nuances of the offense as far as technique and scheme could be what helps our scout team to run that option offense well, and make our defense stay disciplined at the point of attack. I am no expert, but we ran an option offense all thru middle school and JV in high school, and to defend it takes great control by the defensive ends, backers, and defensive backs. That offense uses lots of misdirection, pulling guards,and smart play to create mismatches on the edges. Then usually mixes in QB keepers and quick hitting FB dive plays right up the gut to keep the defense from ever getting in a rhythm against the offense. We have superior athletes, but will have to play smart to win. Very excited about the game, also very glad we have coach Warren.

I don't know, those Atlanta types are pretty childish. Perhaps they are indeed dribbling, numb lips or something from getting slapped around by FSU and Clemson for all these years.

Clemson has kind of owned us the last couple years (although they've kind of owned everyone in the Deshaun Watson era), but our record against them since 2008 (Johnson era) isn't half bad...we're 5-5 against them, including the win in the 2009 ACCCG. Against FSU, we're 3-2 under Johnson.

5-5 against Clemson and 3-2 against FSU since Paul Johnson. Yea we are getting slapped around.....

I didn't realize that. It also feels like you've had pretty good success against VT, though I don't know the numbers. I'm a Hokie Hater, so I'm all for that. I have visions of Calvin Johnson breaking onto the scene in a game against VT.

By my count Tech has opened the season with two D1A teams since 2008... Virginia Tech in 2012 (loss) and Boston College last year (win). VT and BC's combined records from those years were 14-12, so not overly impressive. Point being... given all off-season to prepare, semi competent teams should not have a problem practicing for your gimmick offense. Georgia Tech is 3-5 in bowl games since 2008. Again, with enough time you can prepare for your style of play.

I'm less concerned with Georgia Tech beating UT than I am with Butch beating himself.

I just don't want to look at those god awful Russell Athletic uniforms on Monday. Random comment I know but I just left gtswarm and saw some players in those unis and thought, sweet lord I know GT fans will be happy to not look at those anymore.

This is what worries me more than anything else in this game.

I will never forget a few years ago Butch was asked by a member of the media if he would need to change his coaching mentality/philosophy to adapt to the SEC. Butch's response was "No, football is football. No matter what level it's played at."

Butch is stubborn. He HAS to know to coach this game differently than any other game. I don't care if he thinks his coaching philosophy is the right one (side note: it isn't), he needs to have a very different mindset about clock management and defensive formations for this game.

Valid. Surely there is enough backbone amongst the other coaches in the room, all that football IQ, to speak up. Surely it is a collaborative effort, surely...surely right?

I'm paraphrasing from the press conference earlier today. If you were listening I'm sure you remember:

Q: Butch, you mentioned the offense will not get a lot of possession due to Georgia Tech's style of play. Does this mean you won't be running the up tempo hurry up offense we are now accustomed to in order to compensate for Georgia Tech's offense/ UT's defense being on the field the whole game?

A: No, we'll still be running that....

Makes you wonder. I know he's the coach and his football knowledge far surpasses mine, but wouldn't you want to slow the game down and give the defense some time to rest instead of potentially going 3 and out in a matter of a minute and a half?

sounds like this game is going to be a loss if butch plays up tempo unless we score a td first and make them play from behind it will be a long night. you can't do 3 and outs and have the defense on the field the whole game. if we lose this game it will be a NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT.

That is not a good sign. Control the clock, control the game. The last thing we need is GT to have multiple 7-9 minute drives.

I'll give Butch the benefit of the doubt and assume he doesn't want to give any details the game plan away until Georgia Tech sees it in action. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't see a HUNH offense being the most effective in this game.
