What Other Message Boards Are Saying: 2015 UGA Edition

It's pretty obvious Hurd doesn't have the speed of a Gurley. Gurley was taking it to the house constantly from 50+ yards. Hurd usually gets ran down from behind after about 30 yards or so. That doesn't mean Hurd isn't very, very good, because he is, he's just not a homerun hitter type RB.

Yep, I didn't come over hear to criticize Hurd but comparing him to Gurley isn't fair to him at this point. Gurley was a top ten pick and the first RB selected in the draft coming off a torn acl just 5 mths prior to his selection. That doesn't happen if the kid isn't really special.

I am a huge Hurd fan. But saying he is just as productive as Fournette and Chubb is way off. Fournette 216 yards per game. Chubb 148 yards per game. Hurd 98 yards per game. Hurd has more carries than either one of them too.

I'm not sure i want to compare Hurd to Fournette at this time, however comparing him to Chubb is a close comparison. based on games this year i think Hurd has been up against stronger defenses other than UG/Bama game. I'm not taking anything from Chubb, but Hurd is just a little help away from being as productive.

Don't get me wrong- Florida may very well be exactly where they deserve- but ridiculous preseason polls plus a weaker than normal SEC have skewed the perception of the quality of some wins and losses. I'll ask you-have you ever seen a team go from unranked to #11 in 8 days? In that 8 day span Florida won two games at home against teams with a combined 6-4 record.

But the reason I brought any of this up is specifically how the view of SEC teams has helped the perception of UGA. They started the season ranked #9. They are now ranked #19, going 2-1 against the two absolute worst teams in the conference and being trounced by Alabama.

If Georgia had played Oklahoma, Florida, and Arkansas, what record would you give them? 3-0? 2-1? 1-2?

Our game is much more winnable than some think, in my honest opinion. I might be wrong. I hope to hell I'm not haha. That's all I was trying to say, really didn't mean to take a shot at the Gators.

I didn't interpret it that way. I took it as a shot at "the system".

Unless you don't rank teams until a certain point in the season, you are ranking teams on pure guesswork.....hello, Auburn.

But, as long as you do rank teams, you have to put them somewhere.

To answer your basic question, Georgia is getting respect for past history and Tennessee is not for the same reason.

Yup I agree.

They are just mad that Hurd was compared to their Golden boy. They, and everyone else at this point know Hurd is legit.

Yup I agree.

I meant to also say, as I have mentioned numerous times, the past history of this game suggests it is close.

It is rare for Georgia to blow out Tennessee.

The last 4 years (which no one would argue featured vintage Tennessee teams), Georgia won by less than 10 in each game.

What do you do with a sick dog?

You put the poor fella down.

Georgia: always jawing and choking when the most is expected and it counts. The only major top tier SEC to not get it done in the BCS and playoff era. Crystal Trophies in Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, Gainesville, Auburn and even Knoxville

Man I hope that Butch shuts their big mouths up this season! It's going to be different story when their on the field with Hurd! OU found that out real fast. This is a real good shot to get some momentum for our Vols, and hopefully Butch and his staff loosens up and plays with the Nothing to Lose Attitude! I'm wanting to see Hurd and Kamara make some dog biscuits out of them MUTTS! Go Vols!

Yeah, Gurley does beat Hurd in a lot...except Hurd isn't made of glass. He can actually play an entire season without getting injured.

Well said. I think they will find out Saturday, that tackling Hurd is not going to be as easy as they think! In my opinion, Hurd is just as good as any back in the SEC. It's been a long time since we've had a back like Hurd to brag about. Go Vols!

Georgia shouldn't be talking smack.... They've barely managed wins the last three years over some of the worst Tennessee teams in the last 50 years.

The quote from Jordan Jenkins indicates that Georgia's defense respects Hurd's abilities. I feel like the success of the RBs for both teams on Saturday will have more to do with how each team's O-Line plays against the other team's D-Line, than the talent of the RBs. I know when Georgia's O-Line doesn't do their job, the RBs struggle. The Southern game was a prime example. The running game in the first half was terrible. Chubb in the first half had 31 yards on 9 carries. Came out of the locker room after the half and here are Chubb's first four carries; 11 yds, 13 yds, 11 yds, 9 yds and a TD. I'm pretty sure the O-Line got talked to during half time. He ended up with 131 yards on 15 carries.

You are asking for Hurd to get injured with your comment. I'm afraid you've jinxed him. Hope I'm wrong.:hi:

It sucks that we will never see Hurd behind a good OL. Next year I suspect we will be average at best. Unless maybe Mahoney is canned

Good line or not, Hurd has broken runs open numerous times only to be caught from behind. He's big and lumbering and strong as an ox, but he lacks elite speed. These breakaway runs end up at 30 or 35 yards instead of 70-yard td's.

Biggest problem Tennessee has in this game is this game is for whoever finishes second or third in the SEC East. Georgia and Mark Richt never lose when they are playing for second or third place!

I agree. I'm not going to throw our O line boys under the bus, but if Hurd had some better blocking, the sky would be the limit to what he can do. As for Chubb, he's a prime time back too. I remember watching Chubb come in the game when Gurley needed a blow, and the run didn't drop off none. I haven't heard much on the other Kid, Sony Micheall. How's he been doing?
