what next gen console are you getting and why

Amazon is confusing me. They have the launch edition ps4 as unavailable, I'm assuming because they sold all their pre-orders, but they have bundles that say guaranteed for launch day. Anyone know what's up with that?

More you buy, more they make. Commit to buying a bunch of stuff, they will get it to you on launch.

The ps4 bundles are soft bundles. I talked to a Guy at game stop and he told me the real bundles will come out around October TIFWIW

I wish GameStop had the same mentality. I pre-ordered 7 PS4's and 3 Xbone's and they called me two days later and said I was only allowed to have one pre-order of each console anywhere in the country. As usual, **** GameStop.

That is bs

There's nothing quite as awesome as pledging about $5k worth of business to a company and then two days later they call you back and basically say "**** you, we aren't interested in your business." The whole thing is just annoying. I took the afternoon off work to run around Knoxville pre-ordering them at every store, and now I'm going to have to spend another full day running around to each one getting my money back. They told me I have about a week to get it done, otherwise they'll cancel all my orders, including the two they've so generously allowed me to keep, and simply issue me a giftcard in the amount of the deposits I put down.

I went to the store in the mall yesterday, and of course they didn't have a $100 bill and wouldn't come off the $20's they had in the register and issued my $200 refund fully in $5's they had under the counter. Awesome. The manager at the Clinton Hwy store who called me basically acted like I was some sort of deviant who should be ashamed of what I did and that I was lucky I was still going to get one of each console. Needless to say, I'll pay off the two systems they've let me keep simply because buying them from GS is a means to an end, but the penny that pays those off will be the final penny GameStop will ever see from me. If they don't want my business, I'll be happy to oblige them.

I cancelled my PS4 pre-order. I've decided to stick to my original gameplan on waiting a year for Sony to work through any issues the launch editions may have.

GTA5 will keep me preoccupied till then.

Gosh, what on Earth would ever compel GameStop to do such a heinous thing?

That was pretty much the plan. If you had a bunch of extra cash that you didn't need to pay bills, and I told you that I had an investment opportunity where you could possibly get a 100% return on your investment in a few weeks if you just fronted a little cash, wouldn't you be a fool to say no?

I don't see any issue with him buying that many. They are still making money off the sales.

Exactly. I don't see why I should owe them an explanation for wanting to do business with them. Even if my plan was to simply go out in the parking lot and light them all on fire, as a business I would think they would be like, "Oh, want to spend $5,000 at our stores? Awesome!" Apparently that's not how they roll.

I would get all monies back and create several Amazon accounts and order through them. Gamestop has been screwing people for years, and their future is fading. With more and more going to downloads and/or cloud gaming (mainly PC) I will avoid ever buying anything from them again. If I am forced to buy a hard-copy, I will go with Amazon or Wal-mart if I can't wait.

Like I said, I'm getting all my money back except for the two they're allowing me to keep. Paying for the other two they're letting me keep is just a means to an end, and I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. However, that will be the final penny I ever spend in one of their stores. None of this would have happened if GS would step into the 21st century and have a computer system that could tell that you've already ordered at their other locations. Instead, they can't, and I spend a whole day driving around Knoxville pre-ordering consoles, only to get a call two days later where I'm told I've been "red-flagged" by their corporate office.

I'm pretty sure all the Amazon pre-orders are gone at this point, but I've already ordered from them anyway. I'll check if they have any left and if so, may create another account.

If you want to buy 1,000 eighth-generation consoles and sell them all at a markup, that's your prerogative and certainly a pretty easy and sound way to make some quick cash.

I'm just not sure how you don't understand why GameStop, a video game retailer selling a highly sought after console at its MSRP, would take issue with a guy attempting to buy as many of them as possible for absolutely any reason. Though I suppose that, if you did understand this, you wouldn't have spent an afternoon reserving every Xbox One and Playstation 4 you could find in Knoxville under the same name.

The one console per household rule was so little known, that even the GS employees in the stores didn't know about it. Had I known it mattered, I would have happily given different phone numbers everywhere I went. I even talked to several in the stores and they said they would be doing the exact same if they had the cash to pay for them, and when I cancelled one in the West Town store, the guy behind the counter was shocked and said he had been told people were able to order one in their store and then walk right down to the other store in the mall and pre-order another one. Again, if I'm giving them their money, why should they give a damn what I plan to do with them?

Also, solid moral stance on GS's part to take a stand against someone fronting cash for something with the full intention of reselling it at a 100%+ markup and not giving a penny of the proceeds to the people who actually created said product. Oh wait, that's their entire business model.

is this somehow MS and Sony driven though? If Amazon and Gamestop both won't let you order more than one of each maybe there is more behind this. Also for you to drive all over town to go to different Gamestop stores did you not have some kind of idea this would happen in order to put all that effort into it?

I purchased a PS4 and Xbone from GS, tried to buy an additional Xbone, but they said you could only purchase one of each. Sounds ridiculous to me to just turn away money and a sale.

I asked about ordering more than one in-store, and just like bearcat was told you could only get one of each at the store. I then asked if I was allowed to go to a different location and order more, they said as far as they knew, I could. Obviously I wouldn't have spent the whole day driving around from store to store without inquiring if I was allowed to get them at multiple locations. I was pretty up-front everywhere I went about what I was doing. I didn't, and still don't feel like I was doing anything wrong.

As for your first question, it could be MS and Sony driven, but according to the manager at GS I spoke with on the phone after I was red-flagged, GameStop has a "strict corporate policy of one console per household". TIFWIW.

If you're a retailer who was pretty much assured of selling 100% of your stock in those consoles, it makes sense to limit one per customer beyond simple marketing. More customers purchasing consoles translates to more game and peripheral sales.

Game Stop can still suck it, but I have zero problem with them limiting sales.

just for ****s and giggles i'd go to GS and try to buy 3 current consoles, xbox, ps3, vita, etc, and see what they say then. if they sell them to you just return them and flip them off and take a dump on their counter for being dicks

I don't have any real issue with them limiting sales, Amazon is doing the same thing. What I do have an issue with is limiting sales on the down low, to the point that it certainly isn't advertised, and even the employees in the stores don't know about the limitations. Having an antiquated computer system that doesn't really extend outside the walls of each individual store doesn't help in this matter, and getting a call from one of the store managers after being "red-flagged" like some sort of deviant is kind of annoying.

To be fair, they did allow me to pre-order one PS4 and one Xbone, but that was it.

i wouldn't be surprised though if they were to let you buy more than one of something that doesn't have the demand as the next gens and that's something i'm interested in finding out, but that was awful nice of them to still let you spend your $ in their store

I just tried it on their website with the new version of the 360 which releases next week and is currently available for pre-order. I tried to order 10, but it gave me an error message and said the max number I could order was 3.
