The lyrics of Rocky Top reinforce every stereotype or cliché that Northerners erroneously cling to with respect to Tennessee. On the other hand, it is no exaggeration to state that the Maxims are the Ten Commandments of Tennessee football.
The Pride plays Rocky Top, (number is TBD on whether or not the team wins) and then proceeds to play the Waltz. Every game. And I think the Alma Mater at halftime is great because everybody else plays it in pregame.
Regarding Rocky Top, I know it isn't the official fight song, but by definition it is the best in the country. No other fight song pumps up the fans and pisses off the opponents more than Rocky Top. Plus, it is a state song.

I'm aware of the waltz being played, but everyone is already gone at that point......what I'm in favor of is a move toward having a large part of the crowd stay put long enough to join in singing.......it could be teh waltz, or anything....just a signature sort of fan interaction at the conclusion

The cheerleaders coming out on the field before the game and leading the "ORANGE......WHITE" and "GIMME A V" cheers. So dumb. Fo real.
This is the single greatest post I've ever read.I'm just over 30 but no where near 50 and I have a proposition. We'll work on keeping uniforms unchanged Et al, and you work on getting the AARP crowd to raise some hell.
I've heard some screaming in K&W cause one of them had dead batteries in their hearing aid so I know they have it in them.

It's been a staple played once or twice a game. It was never played as often in the 70s as it is now. Not even close either. In 1972, you may have heard it ONCE OR TWICE.
I don't give dam if opposing fans hate it. I hate it too and wish the frequency of it being played would decrease substantially
im gonna have to agree with the wave. its stupid and isnt cheering at all. i dont understand it.
if there are any wave supporters out there, can someone explain it to me
1.) Smokey as our mascot. This one has always bugged the hell out me. We are the VOLUNTEERS and I think the "Davy Crockett" image is way more fitting. I think Smokey is great as a secondary figure and would be a nice companion to the pioneer but definitely should not be our primary masoct.
2.) Rocky Top. Once a game, sure. However our fight song is "Down the Field" and I wish our band would play that after every touchdown or big play instead.
