As I was able to attend four homes games this past season one obvious thing occured to me our fans suck. We have the largest stadium in the SEC but everyone knows we are not the lowdest or by far the most hostile environment to play in. One thing was apparent while I was watching us play the UT fans would sit down and clap like its a tennis match. I never sit down during a UT game and the next day I am unable to speak on account of me raisin hell on the opposition. If you go to Gainesville or Death Valley you cannot hear yourself think but at Tennessee I feel like Im at a nursing home.
You obviously weren't at the UGA game this year.
This topic has been rehashed 1,000x's already, but since I'm bored...
Its not your job as a fan to be the lone obnoxious pr**k standing and yelling in your section. If the game isn't going well, chances are the crowd's not going to be happy, and likely somewhat subdued.
Unfortunately, there's been a lot of unhappy crowds at Neyland over the last...well......6-10 years?!? MF'er, has it really been that friggin long??
So naturally Neyland has lot a decible or two on occasion, losses to Wyoming and Vandy and near losses to N. Illinois will cause widespread apathy over a period of time.
Winning cures all. If CDD can pull out a surprise W or two next year, Neyland will get its swagger back. Hell, before * left, some of it was returning.
The UGA game was the loudest, most electric crowd I've seen in Neyland in a LONG LONG time. Moreso than Cal '06 b/c it was an SEC rival. If we can do that to UF or Bama this year....lookout.

I was at 6 games last year. I was impressed sometimes and shocked at the lack of volume from the fans at other times. UCLA was very quiet. Auburn had a great atmosphere at times. Georgia had a decent atmosphere and South Carolina was roudy for the most part. Although I did see more and more kids as the year went on and tickets got cheaper as the losses piled up.
I think the best explanation is simply this: as the team goes, the fans go. The fans were exctited about the effort last years team gave. I know I was. I was excited to see the team rally after the 3rd quarter jumping up and down and coming together on the sidelines as a team. I think if they play with that kind of heart next year, it will be hard not to get behind them.
Remeber, nothing compares to the heart of a Volunteer!

Apathy is easy when you consistently lose the third game of the year. Winning cures all ills. When UT tops UF you'll see the fan base crank up the noise.
Too many rich old people telling me to sit down and shut up, so I yell at my TV for free instead of paying top dollar to get in drunk argumens with old fogeys.
Get ready for out of control, da Vols will put an absolute beat down on the Gators this season. Take it to the bank, I will as I'm putting a sack of money on da Vols in Vegas. Once this game starts, it won't even be close, the gators may not even score and I don't see them stopping most anybody in the SEC East this year. To much inexperience on their D along with a missing cog, their former DC coaching UL now. Their D carried them last year, it won't this year and their new offensive starters won't believe the setting they'll enter at Neyland.
Well i've been attending UT games since 92, Florida in the rain, i'll never forget it. I'll tell you what is wrong. First of all you need a Wells Fargo truck to back up to the UT athletic department to pay for your tickets and your annual donation to the school, just for the privilege of coming to Tennessee games. So that pretty much explains why there is a high number of Blue hairs in the crowd. They don't make as much noise because they physically can't, Also they've come to expect the worse out of what they're seeing on the field. Some will argue that's all Phil's fault, but i think certain a AD should share in some of that blame. Also after 10 years of close but no cigar seasons, sandwiched between some forgettable ones, you can see why most fans show up hoping for the best instead of expecting to win anymore. Like it or not there is a certain amount of fan apathy that is still in place and will be there until it gets turned around. It's tough for fans to set around and watch your rivals and teams from around the league win SEC titles and National titles while your team wallers in mediocrity. It all boils down to piss poor management of what is supposed to be the university's cash cow. Now who is too blame for it? The people running the show that's who.As I was able to attend four homes games this past season one obvious thing occured to me our fans suck. Instead of Fulmers banter about "if you told me we could beat Northern Illinois 13-9 and never play the game I would have taken it" type of attitude.
I don't know how fans can't be excited now. We just waltz right in to LA Tech and took their coach. They had no idea we were coming.
And now that we have tape of the LA Tech versus Idaho game from last season, I wouldn't get too cocky if I was an Idaho Vandals fan.
Coach Akey, what 'cha goin' do when we come for you?
Go Vols! We own the WAC (except we can't touch Boise or Fresno).
