What is really going on??

Interested/intrigued, now you are splitting hairs. With intrigue is some level of assumed interest.

Intrigued = How much control will I have??

Interested = Enough control that I will let it be known I am interested.

I guess I just don't see anyone that has been interested. I could be wrong though.

Do you realize there are like 5 different debates going on at the same time in this thread? :eek:lol:

in the end it doesn't matter, because no matter who is hired a minimum of 60% of VN will hate him immediately. As far as this board is concerned, it's lose-lose for Fulmer no matter what he does.

What does it say that a guy like Spence at Clemson (allegedly) turns it down twice?

Obviously, his interest level wasn't high for the job.

I think most people understand that Phillip is going after someone that will run the same offense we have seen the last 20 years with maybe a few adjustments here and there.

I think it's a little more complex than that, but I'll leave it there. We're both Vol fans aren't we? :eek:k:

There's mostly just a lot of anxiety over not knowing the outcome. I trust CPF and any player who signs with UT should do the same. That would appear easier than signing with some of the mercenery coaches or programs we compete against, IMO.

yeah, because Tennessee has definitely ran the exact same offense the past twenty years....:banghead2::blink::no:

So your saying we are running the same offense as Phil ran back when he was the OC under Majors?? Get outta here.

This was going to be a caustic off season regardless of whether Cutcliffe left or not (especially if Cutcliffe would have stayed after that bowl game effort of his). This program is just oozing stagnation and mediocrity right now. But if Fulmer is given this opportunity to actually breathe some new life in the program and he drops the ball, then you are right... Fulmer will still catch flak.

I don't even understand that.

Come on, either you are interested or you aren't, geeez. Being interested doesn't mean you are committed to sign a contract on the spot, it just means you are interested.

I'm not having anymore vocabulary discussions.

Yeah some people are going to complain no matter what.. I have to admit I'm getting a little anxious at the fact we don't have one yet, but it's going to work out either for the better or the worse. I just need to quit reading these dumb articles... fact is, no one on this board knows what's going to happen.

Correct, but it's not just the board. It's been kept very quite which seems to have been a wise enough decision.

To me it says that Spence was interested enough that a second offer was warranted. I don't think you go back to a guy for a second time if he walked out 5 minutes into the interview.

Get a life. Eric you put out a thread everyday freaking out about this. Speculation, conspiracy theory, the sky is falling. Fulmer clearly stated that he was waiting until after this weekend to make a decision. What is the hurry? Calm down, take a deep breath, and see what happens.

I guess at this point I look at it like this....

I'm not interested in the position until I know....

1. How much control I have.
2. The pay.
3. What assistants I can bring in.

After those questions are answered I will let you know if I am interested in the job.

That's just the way I am looking at it right now Freak. I just can't seem though to get it out of my head a HC in the SEC for almost 17 years doesn't even have people who are interested enough to let the media know they are interested. What would be wrong in just admitting they are??

Word!!

Absolutely not. Unless someone shows a strong interest, there is no first offer either. So, Spence was (is) clearly interested.

Yet this same O, has produced a big fat 0 in championships this decade. But I don't want to get into bashing Fulmer so I'll stop here.

i never said this offense this decade has been great, i've never wavered on my now 2 year old desire to have a new head coach. But understand the game. UT's offensive schemes have changed several times in 20 years. But the worst is these people who really think Fulmer can't get out of bed on his own because of his own incompetence. It's just gotten pathetic.

Maybe I need to take a cue from Milo, doozer and some of the others and just stay off the main forum.

yeah, power I, split backs, shotgun, pro set. All the same.

The current UT offense was actually installed by Al Saunders in 1982. It's been tweaked since then, but it's still essentially the same system. It may be the oldest continuously-run offensive system in major college football now that Nebraska is out of the power-I.
