What is Butch Jones "potential"?

The recruiting is getting ready to take a hit. These recruits as starting to realize they will be playing for a used car salesman if they come here.

Pessimism. Projection of your own fears. You will have confirmation of your genius or realize your ignorance in about 5 months.

Hey some coaches called. They want to quote you and VolNation to undercut Butch. You don't mind dip you? I mean they already fake fired him here. Used car salesman, yep, good stuff

Don't be rational. You're killing the board vibe. You need to say things like "He's gotta go" and be really intense, personally insulted they threw the game and act faux smart citing football terms like you have been watching film with Ron Jaworski breaking it down. Diminish him personally and project his future dismal failure. Because they knew he would all along. Lovely chaps they are and such deserving fans.

Butch Jones folds. He will never win anything remotely close to a championship in an actual conference.

Can't win the SEC with Big East coaches..

Big East - Sure. Urban Meyer coached BGSU in the Mac. Saban - Toledo in the Mid American and Malzahn was coaching high school and Div I. Thank goodness they did not coach in the Big East

We all heal in our own way. I have my moments of petulance. Had one with sjt a couple weeks ago. But these posters want to vent. Their opinions and reactions neither validate or contradict the opinions of those of us who are trying to maintain perspective.

We all want the same thing in the end.

Hey wait. I remember one. There was this fellow named Johnny Majors. He won the SEC, but before that he won won a national championship featuring a running back named Tony Dorsett at Pitt, a Big East Team. They smashed the Geirgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl

If Dobbs was a downfield passing threat it would make him a heisman candidate and Butch could hit 10 wins just from having a QB of that skill. Dobbs is not of course but this hypothetical QB could win a NC behind another coach. So assume 2 games underperforming.

No need. Simple google search provides much better ammo.

If they dont have access to the film of UF 14', 15' and OU 15'

I know and thanks for that McDad. I am deliberately being a bit if a smart A$$ here but I am trying to illustrate the absurdity of some posters. This kind of loss to that team hurts badly. I just don't want the team, coaches and the recruits being distracted even more by this "venting" where the season and the opportunity to grow and learn from it get wasted and we set back the real progress Butch and staff have made.

I briefly looked up the stats for the 2012 Bearcats. That team averaged 250+ passing yards per game. Won (Co Champs maybe?) their conference. Overall record of 9-3 which includes a loss to UT. Then beat Cut's Duke squad in the bowl game.
We could say that performance in that conference is not indicative of success in a power conference. History shows many coaches can't replicate their results in the more competitive environment.
The latter part of your statement is becoming harder to deny.

Do you watch the Titans at all?

It's frustrating. I would love to know the "IT FACTOR" which causes some to crumble under pressure and others to blossom. I could make a fortune.

I'm not sure what his potential may be at UT. It's obvious that he will have to adapt, improvise and overcome if he wants to be successful at UT.

I think the bigger question may be is he willing to see his faults as a HC and change for the better. If so then he may be very successful at UT in the future and win a SEC title.

If he doesn't adapt, improvise, and overcome his fait may be the same as Dooley.

Hes a fool for utilizing an inept coaching staff.

No doubt.

Hate to say it, but your answer may be atainable with a detailed study of our current coach.

Lol. Our coaches are too distracted by things like:

Idiotic timeouts
Declining penalties
Piss poor clock management
Not understanding logic
Bad maths
Misdirection
Figuring out who those guys out wide on offense are and what they are for

They surely don't have time to come here and see the truth about themselves.

Yes. I get it. The statistics Booger picked on SECN were only for the season to date. I would be curious to see a much broader data set. We are not the only team to give up a two score lead. Nevertheless that number went viral and fueled a lot of the fire here.. The media is all over the map. Ole Miss goes from unranked to 3. Mizzou came in ranked 25 at 3-0 this weekend despite poor play. The talking heads coronated Grayson Lambert after SC when he was shaky against Vandy. It is a long season that will sort itself out.

Major League reference.

Gotcha. Sorry I missed it.

I was asking if DD4ME watches the titans because of the improvement in QB play and the effect on the offensive efficiency. Locker looked to be every bit as good as Mariota. But Mariota has the extra something g which makes other players around him better. Dobbs is good, heart of a lion, gavus his all on Saturday. But he may be a Locker and we may need a Mariota

Some of those early trick plays came, I think, in response to criticism from the fanbase. Do they troll VN? Hopefully not, but there is a broader fan response they are trying to manage and respond to - likely to their detriment. Playing not to lose and talking in coach speak are part of that. It is a no win situation (no pun intended) for Butch. If he stays on script he is in denial and detached and starts to turn some off. If he acknowledges errors, he emboldens his critics and invites more media questions and distractions

If CBJ was more insightful and innovative, and if UT would pony up a few more millions, he could hire some quality assistants to handle all the in game strategy and decision making while he sticks to being head cheerleader and recruiter.

The potential in a scenario like that could be pretty good. Maybe even SEC-competitive good.

I was wondering what other fanbases had to say about CBJ, so I found this thread on a Bearcat board from when he was hired here.
UT fan needing thoughts/opinions about our new coach, Butch Jones [Archive] - BearcatTalk.com
Some quick comments:

"IMO, Butch will win the games UT are supposed/favored to win and he will lose the game UT are supposed to lose. Simple as that. That's what he did in a very mediocre Big East league and I don't see that changing. With that being said, it doesn't look good for UT because there are so many other power house teams. Enjoy listening to his corny sayings and weak play calling. I don't think he will succeed in the SEC and he will be gone in a few years. I am not bitter towards Butch in anyway but I have said since the rumors began he hasn't proved himself yet to be an SEC coach. The numbers don't lie."

"Moral of the story: Butch Jones will build a very consistent program, he recruits pretty well and says a lot of corny slogans. You probably won't lose too many games you shouldn't but you probably won't win any big ones either. I forsee a lot of 7-5, 6-6 and 8-4 seasons for y'all. If you are looking for in game adjustments, look for a different coach."

"Overall, Tennessee probably could have done better, but you obviously needed a coach badly this season and it's not a bad hire. Many UC fans think he will not last longer than 3 years at UT, but that could just be sour grapes. He may be successful, but I honestly don't see him creating a national title team every year as UT expects. I think Tennessee hired him to be the next Brian Kelly and the consensus in Cincinnati is he isn't. I wish him the best and think he can at the least create a contender. Hopefully this helps; good luck to you."

"I think Butch is a great players coach. The players and organization love him. However, the fact that we haven't taken the conference "championship" the last few years makes me wonder what he can do in the SEC. If he can't get it done in the Big East..what's going to happen against Saban, Miles and Co."

Absolutely. Great example: Joe Montana in the Super Bowls. Teamates talk about how incredibly calm he was and in turn it settled them and helped them win
