What happened to Dooley?

I know...I can't believe people are either ignoring that or are just in plain denial about it...

I mean here he is doing nothing...which we clearly know because he's not speaking to the media...and we're not supposed to assume the worst? Gimme a break...

I for one think we should all boycott until Hamilton admits his mistake and gets rid of Dooley...

I mean...it's only a matter of time before he "Kiffin's" us and leaves for his dream job anyway

Oh yes, most certainly. Lets boycott The University that we love because our coach is quietly doing his job. Come on now... Also, "He isn't doing anything because he isn't speaking to the media" is the dumbest thing I've heard all day

I really hope this is an attempt at humor. I am behind Coach Dooley 100%. He did a fabulous job with our recruiting class. Let him do his job.....I guess some of us got so used to a loud mouth coach that we forgot how a classy coach works.

You guys can defend him all you want.....I did the last coach and got burned. I wont blindly follow again. I won't make excuses for him, and I'll criticize when I think it deserves it. So, why do so many people on here want CDD to be like Saban? For heavens sake.....be you own man, make your own decisions, and don't pattern yourself like someone you're not. I will still support this university and CDD and staff. But his lack of communication is not good for the program. Just look already what people are saying! Maybe he's doing this, maybe he's doing that......it leaves room for too much speculation and rumors. I'm surprised we got the dates for the Spring Game already......why not keep that a secret too???? We don't really need to know it till the week before do we?????? Jeeze Finally, just grow a set and be your own man!

Get a clue. He is running the program as he feels it should be. If it has similarities to sabans philosophy, big shocker, he worked under him. Many other coaches use the same type of media policies.

Why not keep the the spring game date a secret? I know your trying to be sarcastic, but this just proves the point. There are some things we need to know, such as spring games and they get it out as quickly as possible. There is a lot more that we don't need to know.

Tell me exactly what he is suppose to say right now? He can't comment on recruiting. What burning questions do you just have to have answered?

The title of this thread scared me! I thought oh God he has been shot or something! lol.

Anyways I just think he's closed his mouth and started working. Let the rumors be rumors, and watch the man go to work on the field in Sept! GBO!

Wow...somebody's sarcasm meter got turned off today...

I've found that when you actually verbalize what people who start threads like this are implying it tends to sink in more just how ridiculous the implications are

He can say whatever he wants or say nothing at all, in the grand scheme of things what matters will show on the field this fall. Kiffin could run his trap with the best of them and yet he never beat a great team. Dooley will get plenty of opportunities with the schedule he has to prove his worth.

The "rumor" is about the cry baby TE from NC "de-commiting" from UT because he hasn't been burped by Coach D. Rambles on about Johnson decommiting, and how the staff hasn't landed any 2011 commitments.
The sky has really fallen. We are doomed! Typical ESPN garbage. Not a rumor, but just their opinion.

Just ESPN's way of trying to get him to give them an interview. I highly doubt that it will work.

I much prefer a coach who is spending his time learning about and coaching his team to play football and not spending all his time making baseless and stupid comments to the press all the time.

Give CDD a chance. Let him coach a few of years before declaring defeat and sending moving vans to his house.

Seems as if he has gone in hiding. It would make sense to me for him to be visible for recruits! I want him to be as successful anyone on this board does, but it is just like he dropped off the face of the earth!

He is recruiting for next years' class. Laying the groundwork and probably letting those folks know that the VOLS are interested. In addition to making coaching plans for spring training. Just my uninformed opinion.:huggy::huggy:

He is going to let the team speak for him on the field. He wants to be Saban. I believe that and honestly it doesn't mind me. You can say whatever you want about Saban but the man can flat out coach. Period. Oh, gawd now I have an old song stuck in my head.

I love you. Period. Do you love me. Question Mark.

Oh, gawd. Where did my mind pull this crappy flashback from.

If you are looking for an attention whore, you may try looking into USC's program. Dooley is another animal entirely.

yeah annnd why dont you take a look at their recruiting class they where going to bring in here.....thhhhen take a look at their recuiting class they put together in 2 weeks at USC...

kiffin is a dick for leaving us but you all know why we where mad. he was getting it done. he knows what black 17 and 18 year old kids want to hear and what kind of coach they want to play for. college football has changed.

we are on a island with no talent. so we have to go into other people territory and convience their top talent to give the shaft to their home town teams. teams that they have grown up being fans of...kind of like us. look at nebraska...they are the same problem. they have a great tradition and alot of championships... but with the rise of other schools (texas, oklahoma, kansas, LSU (they steal alot of TX recruits) etc...)

we need to make headlines in this era of youtube and twitter. we need to have kids knowing we are here and still alive. the worst thing that we could do is hide away in his office and not speek to people and NOT CALL recruits. this last staff set a foundation on recruiting that he could continue (not being a loudmouth but contacting recruits and establishing relationships with alot of kids.)

i am on board with dooley but i WILL not keep quiet if he isint the right fit. if he was proven then he could stay back from the limelight . thats why saban can do that at alabama, he was a big name. thats why john caliparri at kentucky and simple give a call to a kid and they will follow him to kentucky.

we have to fight and claw our way back to the top and kiffin understood that. coach orgeron knew that. now i hate the last staff probably more than anyone on here but you cannot deny their connection with kids and recruiting. this staff only hase one accomplished recruiter and thats Lance thompson. our dline coach has never even coached college football before and we have no clue how he is going to recruit.

all im saying is that to blindly make excuses for someone when they are not family and have no connection to tennessee other than chuck smith is not wise. we play in the best conference and have the second largest recruiting budget in the country and have ALOT of money and support from the university. we could get a great coach if things go south with dooley, so dont let this past expirence make you think he is the best we could get. no coach in their right mind would want to have come into this job when such caos was going on.

with that said i hope he does good, i hope he turns this ship around...but so far what we have seen he isint understanding the SEC conference and how it works...not to mention he hired a bunch of people who dont know didley about the conference eaither. soooo jeer me if you want but deep down you know alot of people are thinking the same thing....

saban is never in the media and has the same media policies. He has had insane recruiting classes and a couple nat titles. You are right about our recruiting challenges, your wrong on your assumtions on how it must be done. And remember clt was the rec coord and recruiter for a lot of those guys who just brought the egg to the land of cows and doublewides.

Let's see, he has been on the job for just over 1 month.

during that time, he signed a top 10 recruiting class and hired a coaching staff...

now, I suspect these are priorities that are ahead of getting out and talking to media and fans (no certain order):

1. Getting spring practice plan put togther.
2. getting the off season program going
3. meeting individually with his players
4. getting the 2011 recruiting plan finalized and put into action.
5. meeting with the support staffs and finding out roles and responsibilties of those people. that is as a staff and individually.
6. deciding how he wants the football operations (includes support organizations) to function.
7. deciding if support staff / management are the people he wants or not.
8. hiring new staff for those he doesn't want.
9. getting family settled into Knoxville.

I'm sure I've left off some things he needs to be addressing before getting his face in front of media and fans but those are just off the top of my head as being more important.

yeah annnd why dont you take a look at their recruiting class they where going to bring in here.
You have no idea how that class would have finished up and neither does anyone else. The only player that we can be relatively sure about is Ambles... but UT wouldn't have gotten Rogers or Stone and might not have gotten Hunter. They probably would have finished a few places higher than UT ended up. But for all the noise, UT was STILL getting shunned by the FL players that were recruited by one of the big 3.
....thhhhen take a look at their recuiting class they put together in 2 weeks at USC...
You aren't really, seriously trying to give Kiffin more credit for that than Dooley gets (taking over a much worse situation and with half a staff) at UT are you?

The USC class was already great. Fourteen of their commits were from CA and very unlikely to de-commit. Of the remaining 6, two were committed prior to Kiffin's arrival and weren't going anywhere so long as USC got a good coach... and that was going to happen regardless.

Kiffin got commits from Ambles, Stanley, Robey, and Henderson. Henderson still hasn't signed and some believe he won't because the NCAA answers won't come in time.

Again, if CLK had brought those kids plus Chaz Green to UT... minus Henderson who wasn't coming to UT period... and had lost Rogers and Stone... you really don't have anything better than what UT ended up with by large degrees.

he was getting it done. he knows what black 17 and 18 year old kids want to hear and what kind of coach they want to play for. college football has changed.
If that were true to the degree you suggest then every successful recruiter would use his style... and none do.

we need to make headlines in this era of youtube and twitter. we need to have kids knowing we are here and still alive.
You don't have to use youtube, twitter, or any other public media to do that.
the worst thing that we could do is hide away in his office and not speek to people and NOT CALL recruits.
Do you have his office bugged? You have no idea who he's called or hasn't called. The fact they didn't give "love" to McLain suggests one of two things. Either these coaches are just flat out lazy and plan on ending their short careers at UT in two years OR they are very busy calling talented players that were not committed. Judging from the histories of every one of these coaches.... which do you really believe to be the case?
this last staff set a foundation on recruiting that he could continue (not being a loudmouth but contacting recruits and establishing relationships with alot of kids.)
... and you K-N-O-W they're not doing that, right?

if he was proven then he could stay back from the limelight .
And... if he thought running your mouth proves anything, maybe he'd be out there talking about Meyer's heart condition or something. Maybe he doesn't feel compelled for everyone including the competition to know what he and his staff are doing. Maybe he believes his talent to convince people one on one (that comes with being a lawyer) are strong enough that he doesn't need to play the fool.
this staff only hase one accomplished recruiter and thats Lance thompson. our dline coach has never even coached college football before and we have no clue how he is going to recruit.
Did you even take time to read the coaches' bios before writing this?

all im saying is that to blindly make excuses for someone when they are not family and have no connection to tennessee other than chuck smith is not wise.
And all I'm saying is to blindly toss around accusations without having one clue about what they are or are not doing is just as reckless. Simply because they aren't announcing their plans and actions to the world does not mean they aren't getting anything done.

we play in the best conference
Therefore before you go out and offer scholarships and spend time recruiting a kid... you do some research, right? Maybe you watch a little film and discuss a kid's potential, right? Because if you don't, you end up with a bunch of Kenny O'Neals.... Right?

with that said i hope he does good, i hope he turns this ship around...but so far what we have seen he isint understanding the SEC conference and how it works...not to mention he hired a bunch of people who dont know didley about the conference eaither. soooo jeer me if you want but deep down you know alot of people are thinking the same thing....
Yep. You nailed it... Vince Dooley's son who coached a NC at LSU with Saban can't possibly know more about how to get things done in the SEC than you.

Every coach takes a little time off after recruiting is finalized. Cut him some slack. Just because he isn't on TV everyday running his mouth doesn't mean he isn't visible to the recruits.

He's making 4X what he was making before. Most employers don't give you vacation time for 6 months at least, so he can't be on paid leave. What's up!!!
