What happened to Boo?

Boo has a hip flexor injury currently
I don't know about his hip but Boo seems to have a recurring agent flexor situation going on at UT.

It's probably affected his play at least as much as his hip. I'd advise future programs to look not only at his hip but also at those agents working for and speaking for Boo.

Kids can be redeemed and turn into contributors. Let’s not act like that cannot happen.

However it’s clear Heupel has had enough. Boo just doesn’t seem to care anymore and has checked out.

In addition the team captains have to be a contributing factor. We all talk about coaches, but many former players have talked about how important it is to have accountability within the leaders on the team to push everybody.
Very important dynamic that gets overlooked by us experts.

I agree with your take. Extra workouts are a punishment as old as time for athletes. You work out with the team then get the "extra" work to make up for your mistakes.

Back when dinosaurs were still around and I played the coaches would make you do sprints for mistakes in the game. Missed tackles, fumbles, out of alignment.... It was not fun....
My coach in HS favored "bull in the ring". It was especially memorable when he'd call 2-3 numbers all together. Left an impression.

Would love to see a redemption arc here but don't think he has the desire. This is an example where NIL is actually hurting these kids. The victim mentality gets exacerbated when another school will pay for his potential (which is high). No reason for him to dig in and be better, to persevere, when the gravy train can simply roll to another campus.

The fact of that matter is if transfers then balls out he will still get to the NFL. What he likely doesn't realize, because his Mom wants attention vs. an accountable young man, is the NFL doesn't need him. He is actually hurting his earning potential by not putting effort on tape.

Caveat: If he is actually hurt I would take back most of this.

His mom also has a recurring mouth flexor issue that needs to be looked at.

I followed his recruitment closely, and I was excited when he picked UT. And I know it’s hard to judge his talent . . . Because it seems he doesn’t give a lot of effort. Having said that, I don’t see it with him. I don’t really see that he is supremely talented at the SEC level. Again, the lack of maximum effort and attitude could be the culprit. But watching him play, he looks like a very average / run of the mill player to me.

Just seems he can't wait to be somewhere else. Use his NIL money to buy 2 one-way tickets to Colorado. 🧑‍🎄🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️

Yeah, it’s almost like he’s been listening to Big Nick.

The schools are beyond stupid for paying players without performance clauses.
The schools, and probably you ironically, know that performance clauses would lead to the players being legally called employees, not student athletes.

At that point college athletics becomes just another pro league with unions, salary caps, guys playing until they are 40, etc, etc.

So, tell me again, how stupid are the schools?

A chilling thought just occurred to my old, cynical, untrusting heart:

Faizon Brandon has been injured most of his senior year. Is he injured or "injured" (sitting out because he's looking to the next level?)

I hate no longer trusting players not to be acting in good faith.
I fear the same situation among college players once they are eliminated from playoff contention. Not just bowl games but also regular season games. Folks say that players need to continue to impress to secure the next NIL deal/transfer. I think players will now be more worried about an injury affecting those two things. Maybe the reserves need to continue to impress but I don’t think starters and draft prospects need to. Teams (pro or college) will look at past performance for those guys more so than worrying about seeing a few more games.

Faizon already has our assurance of his freshman year NIL deal so high school means nothing at this point UNLESS he's thinking of flipping. In good news, unless he's already got another deal elsewhere, he's not playing to impress another college.

It's a smart move for him to start studying as much of our offensive system as we'll allow him access to instead of playing in high school. It's also a win for UT.

The downside is, much like James Pearce seemed to dial in his last season, unless Faizon is Heisman hunting he may look to the next level his last year season.

I've heard this discussed even for pro players. They sign that big contract and they've done it and they've made "F U" money and no longer need to be that dog so production drops.

I believe this is said to be especially true for some basketball stars. They coasted out their career once they were paid big money. In football, given the almost certain likelihood of a CTE diagnosis especially for those taking massive or repeated head shots, I could see a lot of "business decisions" on how much abuse I inflicted on my body over time.

What student athletes? They are paid professionals now.

No. Legally they are student athletes with name, image, and likeness contracts.

If they were or become paid pro athletes, they will unionize to negotiate salaries. You'll know it when it happens and you may think it sucks now but it will really suck then.
