Does a change in environment thru the transfer portal really help many players? So many of these young guys appear to be quite indecisive -- flipping around to so many schools. This was not the case years ago. You just want them to settle down and make firm decisions.

With the way coaches move around these days I can't fault kids for doing the same. CFB is a business and I can't fault a kid for trying to get his.

The unknown (at least to me) is just how many players don't seem to find a new home. Anyone who transfers before they know for certain a destination is rolling the dice. I would guess that as we go forward and players see many of their brethren float around with no new home, that more guys will be a little more deliberate.

Getting on the field and playing seem to be the motivation for most that I have read about. I'm not sure to what end, however, as it seems that most who have any potential for the NFL are good enough to get onto the field where they are. The one exception might be QBs who are logjammed behind another great player.

I'd rather they go where they have a chance to play.

Change in environment can help a lot of people, not just kids playing football. That being said, to quote Cool Hand Luke, "Some men you just can't reach"...(like 90% of my employees)..and that is applicable to most folks regardless of change of scenery.

vast majority do not star at new venues. Many may contribute, like Payton last year, but would not label his performance as a star. Few become all conference for example.

Go back and look at transfers Tennessee has taken over the years. some contributors but very few big time difference makers. Name the one's becoming all conference players?

I seem to remember people like you are referring to usually ran into grades.. You know what the word "student athlete" stood for. Have not heard one single reference to "transcript" problems, let alone grade deficiency since college football turned "pro".

That's a great point. I have not heard any mention of ineligibility issues due to grades. Not like in the old days when you were on edge around this time waiting to see who was going to qualify.

Schools realized these kids make too much money for the universities. Some professor making $60,000 a year gonna keep a kid off the field that helps bring millions into the university and community? Not a chance anymore. I mean, Auburn keeps all their players eligible. Auburn!
